Hi, all,

I have a 2015 Mustang GT I purchased earlier this year and it never shifted smoothly. Car as 23k miles and as of a month ago - 2k miles - I ditched the stock shifter and installed a x-spec MGW shifter with 2 quarts of Amsoil MTF + 3/4 of Amsoil *transaxle gear lube*; I'm sure the transmission had 7 year old factory fluid. Well... nontheless, the day of and after the new fluid everything was buttery smooth! Couldn't even tell it was notchy. But as time progressed and miles building up I'm noticing that it's harder to shift down low. On colder days 40-50* shifting into 2nd gear fights me (have to apply pressure until the gear sucks it in), and going back into 1st is a 50/50 chore unless I blip the throttle past 2k.

Is this normal? I don't recall my 2011 feeling like this but then again it had the 'standard' MGW and I had iirc Redline fluid.

So, I'm curious if there are others here experiencing this as well and if so, what did you do to help or fix it?

But with that said, the whole aspect of me "blipping the throttle" to upshift or downshift seems almost like a clutch issue... No? Again, though, the shifts were sooooooo buttery smooth right out the box. Maybe some heat cycles killed it?

Ken.

If its cold out mine is a little tough if the trans is cold as well. Did it with stock fluid as well as the aimsoil. But worse with the stock oil even at 11k miles. However by the time i get to the first traffic light at the entrance to my sub its good to go.

My amsoil guy said they recomend dct fluid now. Would have tried it this time but it was on a national backorder. I change the trans and diff every spring.

I also have a mgw flat stick.

You won't like this reply, cuz it involves tearing into the console and removing the rubber boot, but have you checked and/or readjusted the reverse lockout set screw?

Only when I setted it at the beginning. I guess I can go back in and do the process over.

When you at Amsoil Diff fluid do you mean differential fluid? Thatā€™s the wrong fluid. The final 0.7 quarts of fluid should be 75w90 GL4 manaul trans specific fluid.

The diff fluids are GL5.
Ben calimer actually recommends a full fill of the GL4 Amsoil now

Yes, diff fluid. I didn't see that he now recommends straight MTF. Have the forum?
Steeda are also feeling there S550 race cars with full fill of 75W90 Amsoil.

I'd start by changing the fluid. That's not even what Amsoil recommends for these transmissions. If you still have issues I'd look at the clutch second.

I just put BG Synchro Shift II in my tranny and it shifts fine. Iā€˜ve never heard of using differential fluid in the tranny before.
I agree and would think, the rear NOT having synchros..

The lube is not as slippery as the tranny lube would be.
BG all day every day ....... :champagne:

So based above, should I try straight MTF?
