Help I screwed up. Over torqued filter.

Cars is in the air, oil drained. I over torqued the filter (don't ask) and stripped the top of it the filter so the GT350 wrench slips. I tried putting in a shop towel as well as a rubber jar opener with no luck. I need to get it off because I fear the gasket is pinched. I did do a search and could not find an answer.

I've used an old leather belt before when I've encountered tight oil filters. I loop the belt around the filter near the block. I make sure to thread the belt through the buckle so that the direction you pull back to tighten the loop is the same direction to loosen the filter. You just have to position the belt so that it gives you the best leverage and room to pull against it to loosen it up.

Are you using the ford filter wrench or a generic one? If generic you can put paper towel between the filter and the wrench. You wont be able to get the wrench of again though.

Actual just had this happen myself. I just added some astix epoxy I had laying around to the filter wrench and slide it up there. Waited 20 mins and then it allowea me to loosen it .

I used a spare filter wrench I had laying around instead of the good one they gave you .

Channel lock. It’ll sacrifice the filter obviously, but a small, cheap price to pay.

Assuming I’ll leave the filter on until the spring is there any issue with the filter performing if it’s over torqued? I’m storing it for the winter.

You can always use the "screwdriver-through-the-filter" trick to loosen the filter.

I got it loose with one of these. It destroyed the filter, but that was to be expected anyhow.

I just changed my oil yesterday and had the exact same thing happen. Luckily I had one of these lying around and it was the only one that worked.

Not sure if there is enough room but I would think a strap wrench should remove it.

I did this with mine as well. The up side is you don't have to worry about it coming loose
