...and they still lack the driver involvement of a manual.To be fair autos got a deserving bad rep for many years- slow, clunky, bad mpg, etc.
Not so much anymore as anyone can drive one and they are getting quicker than manual shifting. Most of the new 6-8 speed autos are much quicker than their manual counterparts equally equipped.
If standing on a pedal gives a particular driver long-term thrills, that's great, but I just don't get it, a few tenths quicker or not. Seems fine for a luxury ride, truck, or family sedan to me.

Yes, ANYONE can drive one. That says a lot.
