Can you imagine how much it would suck to only be allowed to buy locally made automobiles and be stationed in Ankara Turkey? Does Turkey even make cars?

I have a good friend that runs a large construction company. He does a lot of government contract work.

The waste would would make your head spin. Many jobs run though 3-4 markups(contractors) when they are bid. Many times the winning bid isn’t the cheapest but the one with the most minority points. Female Alaskan Eskimo half Native American owns the head contracting firm. They don’t even own a hammer.
As a civilian contractor for the Army, I live the $10,000 hammer life every day lol.

I'm still not getting how someone buying a GT500 is a waste of tax dollars. As for government overspending, I do agree. Hey did the government buy this car? If they did, the real price paid may actually be three times that sticker or more. Joking of course 🙂

When I was in, I was solicited by several of those military auto buying services, I didn't buy a car because I couldn't afford it, even deployed salary. but damn! there was zero deals to be had, had some friends buy cars from those services and got raped. basically full msrp and fees on top. I dont know exact specifications, but they wasn't happy when they learned could of gotten way better deals at the dealer

Evidently, many misunderstood my intent. I was not complaining. In fact as both retired military and law enforcement, I was chuckling to myself thinking ............ Hope he/she didn't pay ADM. Whatever program is in place that enabled the person to buy it, fantastic. Wish we'd of had it back in the middle 60's. Otoh, I don't think an MG Midget would have lasted very long where I was in Quang Tri Province. The humidity would have eaten the Lucas electrics alive. Nor, would the fabric top lasted very long. Based on my gov't pension, I would like to take the opportunity to thank each and everyone of y'all for the really cool skivvies I bought using tax dollars. Some have Mickey Mouse on them, others Donald Duck. Still looking for Yosemite Sam and Bugs Bunny.

I served with a guy who bought a Viper. He was single. He was tight with his money. Didn't drink, didn't go out every night. Lived on base, ate most all his meals at the chow hall. It was epic seeing him pull up in the parking lot as an NCO - and piss off officers because he had a Viper and they had a minivan.

As for government waste..............three letters.

GSA

If more people knew what GSA was and what they do - and how much it costs taxpayers every day, there might be some changes to government. But as long as the government still lives and dies by the "use or lose it" budget mentality - nothing will change.

Spending authority in your branch of government gives you $2 million to run your department for the fiscal year. Being responsible, you make your department more efficient. You cut wasteful spending. Your department runs better and cheaper So along comes the end of the fiscal year. You've managed to get by on $1.5 million. You want a cookie? No, the people holding the purse strings tell you "Great job. Now you get $1 million to do it next year."

Welcome to the suck.

the GSA jobs, I am pretty sure are like lodging jobs etc, the airforce base hotels, you had to be asian, and any ethnicity other than white, they had 100% preferences, you couldn't even get a job as a white male. they literally made as much as me being a cop, folding towels and making beds.

I wanted to apply for house keeping/hotel jobs and was told pound sand. no joke. we literally have deals with other countries or whatever, and the gsa I believe hires all those foreign workers. I remember attempting to get hired in at several of the positions, and the people couldn't even speak English.

such bs. (I think gsa) is the people responsible for this.

I could be mistaken, this could be an entirely different entity altogether. but its contracted/foreign/employees that work for our gov.

I was actually born in Ankara. We do make some but I remember them being some Fiat-Tofaş and Renault brands. Right now the list is bigger though, like even a Honda Civic and a Ford Transit.

And first electric car finally.
