Hello. I'm looking at getting a 2016 GT Premium with the performance package. I'm just curious what everyone that has a new Mustang thinks of it. What do you like and dislike? Are you having good luck with your new car or are there problems with the new model?

I want one but part of me is weary of such a new model. Of course the newer it is, the more problems that haven't been resolved yet. At the same time I want one! I don't know that I can wait for the 2017's.

Share your thoughts, thanks!

This is a list some other forum members put together for things to look for before buying:

Before you take delivery

Check body panel clearances
TEST DRIVE
motor
Trans
DASH DETAILS (matching???), interior fit & finish, bubbles
broken windshield
arm rest not closing right
back up camera not working right
hood not flushed when closed
doors opening & closing

The rear window/glass and rear brake light. This is usually tilted (raised on the right looking at it from the rear). I fortunately did not have this issue and its difficult to correct - as the problem is not necessarily with the window but the frame. Also, removing the window can create long term issues of the seal.

Passenger side front fender: Mine was terribly mis-aligned, it stuck out a quarter inch from the door. Fixed by my Ford dealers body shop. Alignment looks great now (A). Others have reported door rubbing on fender and paint peeling. I did not have that issue.

Rear trunk lid: Mine was uneven, meaning, the place where it meets the rear quarter panel was raised on one side (drivers) Vs the passenger. Fixed by my Ford dealer body shop. Additionally, other folks have the rear trunk lid/black panel uneven on where it meets the rear bumper. I did not have this issue.

Front hood: Mine was lifted about 1/4th in the drivers side front/where it meets the front nose/headlight. Additionally, the center was pulled in about 2mm's below the bumper. I adjusted the rubber stoppers and alignment is much better. Additionally, the dealer body shop raised the center latch and its no longer 'pinched in' the center. Overall happy with the look now, its an A- (where A would be perfect).

Gas cap: My gas cap was raised at the bottom, so it stuck out above the rear quarter panel. Body shop used a heat gun to bend the plastic gas cap (taking great care to make sure it doesn't warp or ruin the paint). Took them 10 mins, looks perfect (A).

Tight rear and front bumpers where they meet the fenders quarter panel (no gap): Body shop said not an issue and visually it looks great (as there is no gap) but I was worried it was too tight and there would be rubbing (no signs of rubbing issues so far - make sure yours is not peeling/damaged). Body shop said short of new bumpers- which may or may not fix issue nothing can be done (and its not worth doing) as the mounting clips are tight.

Doors: Some people have complained about misaligned doors (too low, offset).

Rocker panels: Some people have complained about misaligned rocker panels - that stick out by a few mm's to the wheel wells. No issue with that on my car.

Dents from the factory/Big scratches in the paint - I didn't have any but some people do. Look carefully for those.

Interior Trim: One complaint I saw here was that some customers got mismatched/wrong trim parts (no leather when they ordered it, paddle shifters on manual cars, mixed PP and brushed aluminum dash) and others got scuffed up interiors.

Front fascia. Hood ridge too high (cant see right signal on '16s). No 10 speed tranny yet. Was getting a '16 but waiting on '17s since Ford sorta dialed it in the '16 model.

Things you might not be able to tell before buying:

- rattles. If you can't stand interior panel rattles... this is not the car to buy. I don't mind them on this car because it's a 3rd car toy, driven windows down with a very loud exhaust.

- PP shift noises, clunks, bumps. the PP cars shift with a big THUD. they just do, learn to enjoy it

- Car hates speedbumps

- - -

Don't worry - You're going to Love this Car, seriously.

Love my car. Only problem i have had. Is misaligned drivers door. Haven't brought it in for that. Also took the drivers wheel off to clean it the other day and noticed the whell well panel missing 2 clips. Went into my garage and took 2 clips from the 91 GT and popped them in. But no other problems with the car

No major issues with my car, love everything about it. Built around April 2015, I avoided all the major quality issues that plagued job #1.

Minor gripes? I would have designed a locking gas cap. Dipstick location is pretty inconvenient. Transmission is noisy, clangs and klunks. Glovebox does not lock electronically with the centre console. Stock exhaust could be a bit more rumbly (but acknowledging that this is a world car, in fact it probably couldn't really be more rumbly).

I have absolutely no squeaks, rattles, or other noises inside mine.

Performance pack 19" wheels on Michigan roads.

The only thing I don't like is the pedal lag...hopefully a tune will fix that!

I love the interior, love the Recaros, my fit and finish is near perfect.

I dislike the lackluster power, sound, and premium stereo.

I can't wait to get one. Just took the car I am selling to the dealership to see if they would give me decent money for it. They won't get me close to where I need to be. Looks like I'll be waiting for private sale to go through before I order my new GT. I want it now!!!

While I was there I did check out the 3 Mustangs they had in stock. I see most issues pointed out here seem to be with fit and finish so I looked at gaps and all that fun stuff. The cars they had all looked good to me.
