A Viper/Corvette competitor

I was thinking about it earlier, with a few exceptions, Ford basically has the market crushed. Now I know there's the new Ford GT, but honestly, other than that, Ford doesn't seem to have a direct competitor to those Sports Cars

Now, Ford did tease this years ago:

But obviously nothing came of it then, and I remember talks of the T-bird being redesigned as a 'Vette/Viper competitor, but otherwise there's no direct competition

Whaddya think?

1. While it would be fun from an internet trash talk/bench racing standpoint I am not sure the market is there. Both the Corvette and the Viper have the namesake and history on their side. Many Corvette buyers would buy it even if it was an inferior competitor just because of the name. It would be incredibly difficult to get a foothold in that market.

2. As much as I hate to say it, the GT is not a Corvette/Viper competitor. While I have no doubt it will outperform both cars, the price point puts it squarely against Lamborghini and Ferrari. Rumors of $300k+ price tag just can't go head to head with the Vette.

I think the Ford GT is essentially the competitor, but I don't think Fords motive with the GT was to compete with the 2.

New T-bird...as old T-bird, aka direct Corvette competitor.

Thunderbird (base) - DI/PI 5.0L V8* - 460/415
Thunderbird TurboCoupe - EB4.0L** V6 - 515/530
Thunderbird Supercoupe - EB5.2L*** V8 - 680/700

*Coyote utilizing Voodoo style fueling system incorporating both direct and port injection.

**Cyclone at factory designed max displacement

***Voodoo displacement techniques utilized in a crossplane style V8.

Just me daydreaming.

I think Ford's upper management should reconsider the current idea that consumers really like most of their models to all look very similar.
From the tiniest little car to their largest, they all share the same face.

That is all car companies, not just Ford. Audi is the best example of this.
