The issue is bad enough my dealer informed me that the fusions we share a windshield with have a lot of issues with "weak" windshields like the one I started this thread on.
I still don't buy it (I think it's all more exaggeration of the scale of the issue than fact). The windshields go through testing on the formula of the glass to meet federal standards.

If it was that wide spread a problem on multiple models then there would be a recall already as that is a major safety issue.

Physics says that windshields dont "just break." It takes some type of force to crack the glass, whether it an impact force or drastic temp change; or even a good hard bump one just right. Glass is all chance. My S197 windshield was hit by a rock on the highway and only got a pit in it; never cracked. Another similar impact could shatter or crack another car's glass. A lot of it is chance and how it was hit.

See these links about Nissan sunroofs breaking and shattering all by themselves. This happened to a friend of mine who had a new Nissan Murano. It "exploded" as she was driving down the road, similar to one example in the WRAL article. Ford is also mentioned in the WRAL article.

I don't feel like the glass is weak. Like I posted on the first page, I got hit pretty hard over two months ago. And the windshield is yet to crack completely.

Yup. Mine cracked TWICE in the 6 months I've had the car!!!! and both cracks were from very tiny objects hitting it about an inch from the side edge. If this is happening to a lot of people it could be a glass issue. They replaced mine this time with a Sound Screen oem windshield, the kind that the GTs have.

Took a hit above the Ford Logo on the windshield of my GT, no crack . It was a solid hit, chipped the glass. My 14 took lots of hits , with no major damage from highway driving. I have glass coverage on both my rides. Just replaced my 14's windshield this past winter. Road debris seems to be a major issue no matter where you are located these days. The angle of windshield location may be related to quick fracturing. :ford:
