I bought some metal tyre valve caps from eBay with Mustang logo but they weigh 5g each, will that adversely affect my wheel balance or put a strain on the valve at speed?
There were several similar made out of composite and chrome plated but I thought I was buying the best out of solid metal but have been surprised how heavy they feel. I haven't driven the car since fitting them.

sheps5.0 has them on his. Probably doesn't mean much, but maybe worth getting a tyre place to spin the wheels on a hunter and see.

I'd be surprised if they were affected,a stone in your tyre would weigh more than that.

If your wheels are already correctly balanced, 5g should make no difference at all until you're travelling at 180-200mph plus!

I'd be more concerned about the material they're made of - some metal caps (I think chromed steel) can react with the brass stems of the valves and become absolute bast*rds to remove if they're left untouched for long enough... so perhaps put a bit of grease or silicone on the threads to act as an isolator just in case!

don't worry about it too much they'll be nicked by some little scrotes before they have chance to effect the balance at all :)

As with Nookie, more concerned re going solid on the valve, then there's the concern re scrotes whipping them off for their vagaziles, the little twunts, I've had loads of sets nicked off of cars in the past :(

I had a set of metal valves on my Fiesta ST. Had to get the pressure sensors removed and a new set put on as the valves were completely welded on

Thanks for all the sound advice.
I bought two sets to allow for nickage.
Spanner tight to defeat fingers.
In light of comments on sticking I will grease them.
Cheers folks

I just put mine on for shows and meets then put the stock caps back on so no chance of becoming welded on. They weigh next to nothing so didn't even cross my mind they could be an issue.

Experienced both of these myself!

Also found that they are often not long enough to cover all the thread, so you end up with some unsightly brass coloured bits showing.
