Why put so much money in a GT if you can buy a GT350?

Not trolling just curious. I've been reading in this and other forums where people mod their cars with a good chunk of money even in the territory of a GT350 and sometimes spend more than that. Some people for example have spend 20-30k on mods already.

Just curious. Maybe there's like a big advantage on doing this?

Question is can you even find a GT350? And if you do hopefully it be at sticker not marked up ridiculously high.

Because you can get a GT and put a 8K SC and blow the 350 out of the water
^This. At the total amount I have in the car, I still have another 20k before I reach GT350 status. And I only have about 10k left until I'm at my goal.

The way i look at it is. A GT350 goes for 58,000. I have recently seen a dealer mark up of 29,000 on top of the 58,000. So why spend 87,000 on a GT350. Now some people will spend money on upgrades on that car.

Now i bought a 40,000 GT. I can spend 6500 to 9000 on a supercharger or turbo kit. Lets say another 3000 on full suspension upgrades. Then Run circles around GT350's for less the the sticker price of a GT350.

Not on a road course... which is what the GT350 was built for.

Are the suspension much different from a GT? I know the rims and tires are and the 350 gets better rear brakes. I thought they used suspension parts from the performance package GT's. I know the shocks all around are different.

But a boosted GT would definitely catch a 350 on any straight away.

The GT350 has the magneride suspension which I wish the Gt had and a 8k redline but power wise the 350 can't go further with the high compression and 8k redline it has.
The GT has much more breathing room and responds well to mods. Throw a little money into the suspension and who knows what can happen

1) The GT350 just became available, and people have been enjoying their [S550] GTs for over a year

2) Some folks like incremental improvements with a cheaper initial purchase price

3) Straight line performance is a priority and bang-for-the-buck favors a GT + FI (and spending the extra 25K+ for "track performance" isn't a preference

4) GTs can be found nicely discounted, GT350 have ADM (I personally would _never_ pay over MSRP)

5) No convertible option for the GT350

Plenty of reasons that make sense to me :)

You should read up a little more on the GT350. It was purpose built for road courses. It is not simply a GT with extra stuff.

Suspension may not be incredibly different, I really don't know. Magnetic damper options, gearing for track, FPC V8 that revs high and has a potentially more ideal powerband, brakes and whatever else may be there. You can probably get it close with the delta in price but R&D for tuning will be a problem most likely.

Most people modding a GT in that range probably put a supercharger on and have the gearing more ideal for straight line performance. Also, parts for the GT350 will be significantly more, insurance and maybe attention (that you may not want).

Insurance reasons as well. Go into the GT350 subforum and look at what some people are paying for a GT350 for insurance. Its pretty damn high.

They are really completely different cars. The GT350 is very much track oriented, more of a weekend racer that you can also use as a street/DD car. The GT's are more of a street/DD/drag strip car that you can also take to the occasional track event (with some suspension mods).

You cannot get an auto in the GT350, so that eliminates some buyers (like me) + they are hard to get which means either a long wait or ridiculous ADM or both (also eliminates me - LOL).
