Not at all.....I have a 275/35r19 on 9.5 and its perfect. approved widths for that size is 9.5-11

285 is fine some members even run 305

but I would rather recommend you use a 285/35/19 not a 40 profile tire.

It's right on the edge. Minimum recommended wheel width for a 285/40 is 9.5" (in any diameter), and this is the rear tire combination that Ford used on the 2008-ish GT500's 18-inchers.

Generally, I think that running at or near the min-recommended width for the tire size is probably the better setup for drag racing, as the sidewalls are a little softer that way (and will take the initial hit better). The only caveat I can think of here is if the car feels really "woozy" at the big end from not having enough lateral stiffness.
