Sounds like the lugs for the adapters are F'd up.
But in what way? The threads are fine. They aren't stripping the threads of the studs. What's stripping is the splines that hold the studs in the hub. I've never even heard of that before. I would think you'd break a stud before that would strip.

Take the adapters out of the equation ... in other words, can you torque your wheels straight to the hub?

That's....I'm not sure how you're doing that.

Well now I'm starting to stress out, I'm at a loss. I picked up brand new hubs from Ford today with the studs already pressed into them. I got everything all put back together and again when I went to install the wheel adapters I can't torque them down. I knocked one of the studs out and the splines on the stud feel ok but the hub feels pretty smooth. I'm definitely not over torquing them. I've taken the wheels on and off this car a lot and I know the feel of 100 lb ft, I wasn't even near that. This time I'm guessing I was at maybe 70 lb ft and they just spin. Anyone have any ideas? I'm getting desperate now. :frusty:
The way I see it is, if you are having the same symptom with new hubs and lugs and using the lug nuts that came with the adapters, then the lug nuts must be effed up. I cant see there being any other reason....

Thank you guys a bunch for the help! When you get frustrated, it's nice to have calm sound minds to help. I think you guys are right. I just went out and looked again. When I looked before, I thought the lug nuts looked fine and the weird thing is, I can turn them on by hand without any problem. They also didn't mar the stud threads at all or leave anything on them. Yet when I look at the threads in the lug nuts, the edges of them look shiny and a little flat. Now the fun of trying to find low profile open lug nuts for those adapters. i can certainly try Mustang_Lou suggestion and just bolt the wheels up without the adapters, now I'm convinced that will be ok though. So the old hubs are probably ok.
