What would you run as a DD in the rear?

So I’m already running a 305/35/20 NT555R on an 11 inch wheel, but I’ve figured out that my limit in the rain is about 50mph. Any faster and my rear end is doing the J-Lo halftime shimmy :turkey::turkey::turkey:

I’m perfectly fine with this though, as I don’t think I’ll find a better radial tire with ‘decent’ driving in the rain. I don’t have a spare set for weather that isn’t the most agreeable, so I’ve been contemplating a 315/35/20 NT555 G2 in the rear instead, since I have G2’s in the front.

In my mind, I could keep the NT555R’s that I’m running, switch to a wider 315 NT555 G2, or best case scenario I find a 315 radial that can handle some bad weather like my NT555R’s can. Unfortunately for me, the NT555R is not made in a 315/35/20.

For context, I have an ‘18 GT making about 480whp so I would also like to know if a 315 NT555 G2 will keep up in terms of traction with a 305 NT555R. Obviously a radial will kick ass any (warm and dry) day of the week, but with my whp, I don’t know if I will see any benefit.

I appreciate anyone who can give me some insight or opinions :like:

315/35/20 Falken Azenis FK510. It's been insanely rainy here, absolutely no issues regardless of speed.

The NT555 G2 will give you very little traction especially at that power level. Even when I was stock on my 16 GT the G2s spun really bad at anything above half throttle in 1st gear. I really like the NT05R over the 555R but personal preference and still no good in the rain. As stated about Michelins are probably your best bet but pricey.

Yeah I feared that the G2’s wouldn’t hook but I was skeptical because the only real modification I’ve made is an E85 tune

I'm a big Nitto fan so naturally I decided to try the G2's on this car as it was stock and the tires were much cheaper but honestly they disappoint me quiet a bit and I won't be buying them again. I'll be switching back to NT05Rs soon and will just drive them in the rain. I live in Texas and we don't have a long or hard wet season here. If I could daily them in my old 2014 GT, I am fairly confident I can do it in my 16.

It doesn't matter if you're making 480RWHP or 4,800RWHP, stay out of the pedal in the wet. It's just common sense. As far as a DD tire, Contact Sports are the best tire you can get for the money until you want to spend big dollars on Michelin 4S's.

Nothing is gonna stick like a drag radial. If your used to a DR then expect to spin with summer tires. The nitto 555R now upgraded to 555R2 are the best wet road DR. You have to compromise somewhere, good in rain or great dry traction. Your never gonna have both. I personally run 555R2 with 650 whp and avoid rainy days.

Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 they were surprisngly decent in the rain.

As I seem to be mentioning alot tire pressure means ALOT keep them around 30/32ish for daily and learn to drive with your foot not just the steering wheel in the rain.
