so took my wheels in to Big O tires to have my summer tires demounted and replaced with some all seasons. my summer tires have maybe 3K miles and dont really show signs of wear. when removing the tires from my wheels one of the techs somehow took a giant chunk out of the sidewall to the point the tire is no longer usable. i work nights so i had my gf pick up the wheels and tires and the tech said "its just one of those things". not only did they still charge me for the demount they did not even offer any suggestions about what to do with the tire now. i just spent 1200 on a new set of tires and then this happens to my old set which was very much still usable.

should i pursue making them pay for a new tire or refund me for a tire or should i go thru the manufacturer? my only concern is since they arent rated for use under 40 degrees and it was probably 30 today here in reno and has been dipping into the 20's and 30s for the last maybe week or two but when they attempted to pull the tire off it probably cracked. so now i just dont know which way to go. sorry for the essay and thanks for any legit advice on where to go from here.

I would have them cover the new tire and refund you for the service 100%.

Put the complaint in with the manager if they dont do a thing go to corporate directly.

If they damaged one of the rear tires, it's inadvisable to run one new and one used tire. You may have to end up fighting for a set of two tires.

In any case, it seems unacceptable to me to just eat that loss.

That's unacceptable, man. It's definitely not "just one of those things". They should comp you for a tire or a least a portion.
