Hello everyone. I have a 2016 mustang ecoboost convertible. There's this weird high pitched like eee noise or whatever whenever I step on the throttle above like 60 percent. I feel like this started after I installed the turbosmart 12 psi wastegate but I could be wrong or it could just be a coincidence. I've ask around in other places and nobody knows, so ideas would be great, thank you.

This is totally from left field, so laugh if you want. I believe the ecoboost mustangs have active noise control. Is that sound coming out of the radio speakers?

So if this was the issue, if I turn my volume to 0 should it not make that noise? Or is there a different way to test this?

Turning the radio off doesn't affect the piped in exhaust sound. A quick google search came back with pulling fuse #27 should disable it, but I have no first hand knowledge if that is true.

Oh okay, so basically it's my exhaust noise coming through my speaker but sounding terrible because it's aftermarket?

There could be a problem with the active noise reduction system unrelated to the new exhaust. But keep in mind I took a wild guess that the noise reduction is the problem. It sounds so electronic like that the radio systems and noise reduction came to mind.

I'm gonna take fuse 27 out on my way home and see if I can still hear that. I'm honestly not too annoyed about it, it's more worried because I don't know if it's something that needs my attention and I know how fragile these pre 2020 2.3l can be

My fuse 27 is already out and I didn't do that

Wrong fuse box, it's the one under the dash kick panel on the passenger side inside the car.

To me, it sounds like an air leak somewhere, try double checking your newly installed wastegate and check all the vacuum lines, make sure gaskets are seated properly, etc.

I will do that, would the spring not being set properly make that noise too? I'm pretty sure I got the spring in there correctly but you never no for sure unless it tells you.

How do you check for a leak on charge pipe couplers?

Here are some ways to check for leaks on charge pipe couplers:
  • Boost leak tester
Pressurize the system without starting the car by removing the turbo inlet, attaching the tester, and connecting it to an air compressor. Then listen for leaks or spray the couplers with windshield washer fluid and look for bubbles.
  • Soapy water
Run the engine while spraying soapy water on the couplers. The air pressure and soapy solution will cause bubbles to appear if there's a leak.
