I continuously have to point out to people that what you feel in a car (or at the gym) is percentage. There is no way to feel 10-15HP on a 435HP 3800lb car- you need measurement equipment and hard numbers. In any kind of normal driving, you are never using more than 200HP. Now, adding 15HP to a 140HP Honda Civic is definitely "feelable" because it is a huge % increase. Likewise, you can gain the same "feel" by dropping weight. Power/weight ratio is as important as HP. But really, what you are feeling is torque, and lots of torque in the low-mid-range is what most people associate with HP. But 450 is a nice round number. 500 is a nicer rounder number ;)

You are def correct. That being said this car should have been 450 hp. That would have made up for the added weight nicely and Theres NO reason for ford to put anything but pilot sports on the car either. So much of the performance difference to the Camaro is due to the tires and wheel width. Pilot sports are the same price as Pzeros

Ford was encountering mid to low rpm turbulence with the Boss manifold, as mentioned already it worked best at high rpm and didn't do well every where else. On a normal everyday car that can cause issues and midrange power suffered with it, the current setup with the charge motion solves this issue and the benefit was a more power though the meat of the rpm band.

Cost was also probably involved, with the huge cost of the development of the new chassis, suspension etc there likely wasn't much left to do with the engine, and when you already have a good thing going, don't mess with it too much!!

Ford will definitely be answering the new Camaro so expect to see some engine upgrades maybe as early as the 17' GT.

The Coyote is rated at 324 kiloWatts.
I am EXTREMELY disappointed that it isn't 350 kW.

.
Your gonna be even MORE disappointed when the Coyote is neutered, dew to Gov"t regulations, think this can"t and won"t happen,I remember and lived through the 1973 V8 neuter BIG cubic inches and very little compression + very low HP,and the muscle car died as a performance vehicle.Just look back on the Mustang and the JOKE Mustang II, Gov"t,Insurance Oil Companys = Neutered V8"s.Now you still think with 33 MPG standards for 2016 model year and WORSE to come in 2017 your going to get a bump in HP from the Ford Coyote, and the Café standards also apply to ALL auto MFG"s.So get ready to say goodby to the HP wars just like we did in the 70"s.History repeats it"s self and it will again.

I wonder where the HP numbers will plateau for the Mustang and camaro rivalry. I remember the 80's pushrod 5.0's at 225 HP and we all thought it was bad ass. We now have double the Hp and more on the horizon....awesome time to be a car enthusiast.

GM cant afford to go much further with the camaro. They have the LS MAXED in the vette right now without adding FI. At some point you still have to sell and 80k American icon.

I can get my car loose in 2nd gear. I'm not overly concerned with having more at this point. If a Ford tune comes out perhaps I will go for it, but adding big power reliably requires supporting mods. Cam gear, oil pump gears, half shafts, come to mind right away for big power adders. The Boss engine had forged pistons among other things (444 hp). For Ford to build a reliable car with more hp it will cost more. The Coyote has only increased by 23 hp in the Mustang (412, then 420, then 435). The all important torque increases were even less.

The HP figures listed are based off 93 octane as well I believe. If Ford doesn't up the power for the 17MY then you can bet on it being in 18. Question is, how much are they going to up power vs. the Camaro? 475?

As the song goes-Dream,Dream,Dream all I want to do is Dream. Café standards are going to kill the HP race and the V8,the hand writing is on the wall.

OP, you do realize that the Road Runner engine has 500 more RPM to play with and peaked its power pretty much right at redline, right? Apples to oranges among other things.
