Something that will fit in the trunk and handle 90% of a car's needs (re: hand tools)

I've seen old references to some sort of Sears toolkit-with-box but never a stock number.

And there are a dizzying number of 2xx toolkit-with-box options on their website lol.

The best kit for track days is the one you put together yourself. Other than perhaps a socket set or three, only the tools you need. The utility boxes you can find at the big box hardware stores work quite well for holding it all once you take all the little individual pieces out.

I've got a 'Stanley' box in the Mustang (shown), there's a 'Husky' in the Maxima, and there's another 'Stanley' that holds most of the firearms cleaning stuff. The blue pipe is a cheater bar for the ratchet that started out life as the upper piece to a floor jack handle (even that and the hammer both fit inside the box if I pack carefully enough).

This one is probably pretty decent too, but at the other end of the spectrum. On the good side, you don't need to worry about fitting it in the trunk :)

1. A jack that you can fit
2. Sockets for wheel lugs
3. Other generally used socket sizes (13, 15, 17, 18), ratchets & extensions
3. Torque wrench

Beyond that, you're better off with a trailer.

I bought one of these: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-Uni...Mechanic-s-Tool-Set-with-Hard-Case/1000046233

It's been fairly effective. Molded case, everything snaps in, very simple to find what tool is missing. Slim case fits in the trunk well with jack and other necessities. It is by no means all inclusive, but for the price it has met most of my needs. I also have a small soft sided box I bought at Harbor Freight for the stuff doesn't fit in the molded case. I think that is the biggest down-side to these all-in-one kits...you can't add to it. It is what it is and that's it.

All kidding aside, being as I am not nearly rich enough to rock a crazy trailer
I have a tool bag that I got at some Toyota trail teams promotion years ago. Have a bunch of stuff in there for the track. It started with way more of some stuff than I needed and a lot less of other stuff. These days it's a 1/2 socket set of appropriate sizes to include a breaker bar and torque wrench, hammer, assorted pliers, vice grips, wire stripper/ crimper, tape, shop rags, 4'x4' canvas, knife, strap wrench, screwdrivers, cordless impact wrench with 1/2 in adapter, etc... Seems to do the job for now.
