Ok Thanks! i'm going to delete this then. Why is it cutting out at just 6,900 rpm @ 149 mph? Engine has the rev limiter at 7,500, and governed top speed of 163. Just curious. But great numbers; only 5.5% and 6.7% losses. Corrections might have been a bit radical, since manuals have at least 10% driveline losses. Or did Ford underrated our Bullitt engines, even at 480HP? I was surprised TQ stayed the same; didn't make sense to me, but maybe it's right.
the tech said, and as seen on the video. Governor kicked in at 149 - 154 mph. Top Speed should be 164 right? Why is it cutting out at just 6,900 rpm @ 149 mph? FORD under rates their cars because of the 2001 cobra debacle, they had to replace all the heads on the 2001's because they overrated the cars and got caught with their pants down. hence there was NO 2002 cobra because of this. that's when John Colletti(then SVT director) said give me something that packs a punch. and the first supercharged Mustang came aboutI have seen numerous charts showing 440-450 range which would say 500+ at the motor. Even figuring a 12% drivetrain loss that would mean your 453 to the wheels is 515 at the motor!
I know ford has a history of underrating the motors. What I’m curious about is if this car is in all reality making those numbers then will the Mach 1 really only have 10ish more hp (if the rumors of 525 are true) or will it be under rated just as much and have closer to 560? Just thinking out loud.
For the sake of history, the lack of a 2002 Cobra was not the result of the 1999 HP issue. The 15 HP deficit of the 1999 Cobra was corrected by Ford replacing the intake manifold, the exhaust system from the cats back and a re-calibration of the computer to get it to the advertised 320 HP at the crank. It was this problem that caused Ford to pause Cobra production resulting in no regular Cobra's produced in 2000 (although 300 2000 Cobra R's were produced but they had a completely different 5.4L engine from the regular production Cobra's). The 2001 did receive new heads but they were replaced to resolve the lack of cooling to cylinders 6, 7 & 8 that were causing the valves to overheat and was not related to the HP issues from the 1999 Cobra.FORD under rates their cars because of the 2001 cobra debacle, they had to replace all the heads on the 2001's because they overrated the cars and got caught with their pants down. hence there was NO 2002 cobra because of this. that's when John Colletti(then SVT director) said give me something that packs a punch. and the first supercharged Mustang came about
