I have been a bit of a car cleaning nut for a number of years and have had many beautiful German cars to lavish care upon. The new Mustang will be no exception. All my products now come from CareCar Products -all of their stock is quality.

Very soon I'm going to strip mine back to basics and give it the full treatment. Mine, and many others I suspect has a superfine overspray of black paint (from the Australian version having their undercarriage sprayed black in a none to well controlled environment) on bonnet, boot and wheels. You can see it on my Oxford white under any decent light when you get close enough and I have the silver wheels and its visible on them.

I have clayed the wheels and it came off easily enough, but I couldn't believe how much smoother they were after the clay treatment. I then polished them with a sealing polish and it is amazing now how little brake dust sticks to the wheels. I recently drove 600ks in a day and when I got home I ran my finger along a few of the wheel spokes no brake dust was visible on my finger - I kid you not! It is a Miracle!!

So I'm soon going to do the whole car.

I thought I'd share my favourite products after a number of years of trial and error. I notice a few of you using Meguires products and while they are good products, and I used to use them all a while back, but I can without hesitation advise that the products listed below do a way better job with less effort and the results are not only superior but last longer.

Wheels / tyres;
  • Gyeon Q2M Iron - Wheel Cleaner brake dust remover - really really Excellent
  • Gyeon Q2 Tire Gel - best I have ever used bar none.
  • Mint Black Foam tire applicator - A life changing experience. Use with tire gel by spreading on applicator itself and one or two slides around the tires for perfect and uniform coverage
Black plastic skirts and black plastic rear view mirror surrounds
  • 303 Aerospace Protectant - Don't even think of using anything else!
Windows
  • Outside - Gyeon View. This seals and makes glass hydrophobic for a year - Yes indulge its worth it.
  • Inside - I like Autobrite Crystal Glass Cleaner - but Invisible Glass is also good.
Body AKA duco
  • Clay Magic Blue (fine) clay. Use with Mint lube spray. You don't think you need to clay your new GT do you, but I have news for you. You do! And the difference in the end product polishing job is chalk and cheese if you have clayed to start with. And its a good work out so get into it!
  • Autobrite Snow foam lance - then any PH neutral wash or PH neutral shampoo of choice. I use the Autobrite foam but will try the Gyeon foam next. Leave for 10 minutes for best results.
  • Duragloss Clear Coat Polish - Paint Protectant Sealant 111. Makes your car look wet, which is a good thing right? Hand applied and hand polished is fine.
  • Menzerna - for those of you with an orbital polisher then the Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Sealant polish applied with the Menzerna black finishing pad - Heaven on a stick!
Remember this is just a handful of favourites, there are a lot more products but you will LOVE these if you want any recommendations.

Have fun detailing guys.

Hi

Yes that's what I used, and I'm astounded by the results. I always used a good wheel cleaner but never bothered to polish the wheels before. Its been a revelation, but it shouldn't be as they are painted and a gloss coat applied just like on the car.

I actually don't need my Wheel Cleaner spray now as the foam gets the wheels as clean as is humanly possible with the polished sealed finish on them.

Awesome I am due to place another order soon, I need ironx or equivalent for the family car due to iron particles, do you have any recommendation from Car car products? I don't really want to clay the car unless I have to

Your talking about the family car's duco?

Either way I would use this - Gyeon Q2M Iron. First use a strong detergent wash, then the Gyeon, then clay and then a bonding agent and then a polish. If you don't want to clay the Gyeon Iron may get it all off, just leave for 10 and it will turn purple if its iron particles

With you on the Gyeon Q2 tyre gel....doesn't fling off...easily applied with a foam puck...has a great satin finish and long lasting.

...AKA duco...
Might be showing your age there LOL. Is that term still widely used? It certainly isn't in the industry. I think my 83 year old dad might still use it :D

Back onto detailing, I negotiated 50% off a new Karcher K5 unit with a lot of included attachments so that's my latest purchase. Don't need the bigger unit for the car but it'll do a much better job on the concrete and paving, especially with the proper attachment, and I'll be able to sell my old K2 unit now.

Also got a gallon bottle of Meguairs Sythentic X-Press spray wax for 20% off. Great for use between proper details.

washed, clayed, and sealed my Race red GT this morning using the gear that Flying Fiz recomended and i have to say i couldn't be happier. the shine is much more vibrant than how it came from the dealership.

For those interested in Snow Foam, I can highly recommend Bowden's Snow Job. Beautiful thick foam, penetrates well, and with a lightly soiled car I've had no need to do subsequent hand washing.

Can you also use Gyeon Q2M Iron to clean the rotors ?

Mines have some sort of rust from using a wheel cleaner on it.
I can't get rid of it with the pressure cleaner.

Hi
Yes sure you can but as soon as you take it for a drive that rust will be gone immediately. I used to use average wheel cleaners years back and the rotors always rusted over, too strong a wheel cleaner and or some acid in the mixture- not good!

oh yeah true it's gone after driving the car.
But is there a way to get rid of it ? It's disgusting to see just after cleaning :/

What would you use to remove swirls if I have opti coat on the car ?
The detailer told me not to polish the car but he hand polished my car when I had a stain on the coat few months ago.

Also I have some grime just above the side skirts. Washed the car twice and it's not coming off at all :/
