My VMP 137F TB died and I tried to buy a new one but VMP doesn't make the 137F TB anymore. How bad is the drivability of the 163R TB? I have the VMP Gen 3R S/C so it should bolt right up. I know I'll need a retune.

If your tuner knows what he’s doing and is willing to take the time then the 163r TB can drive just like stock. I’ve tuned one myself and found the vmp supplied tb model data to be way off. However, after 20 or more revisions it works fantastic.

I would have thought it could be docile. VMP folks say that it will have idle problems and likes to be driven WOT.
Lund is my tuner.
Thanks

The primary idle control is by spark timing modulation, not throttle. The throttle body’s role is to cut the airflow down low enough so that timing has the appropriate span of control. I had no issue at all getting the airflow cut low enough for this purpose.
