Is anyone lucky enough to come in contact with these pre-productions cars taking note of the VIN numbers? The VINs have become so important now when it comes to locating the classics and cars of historical importance. I know Ford is probably now a bit more astute with record keeping than they were back in the 60's, but it sure will be interesting to start a little registry right here, documenting what car debuted where. :)

From past years following these cars , they are NOT assigned Vin #s. How they get them legalized for travel on public roadways, they probably have a blanket co. permit setup. Most of them will be destroyed....A few may end up as co. historical exhibits.

For the record, it is just VIN. (Vehicle Identification Number). Saying VIN "number" is redundant.

Exactly. It's so annoying when people do that.

Do the pre production vehicles even have a full VIN? I know you can't register them for the road in most cases.

Yes. As a manufacturer they can drive any vehicle on the road if it has a plate on it. All of these show cars and early production ones will eventually be destroyed unless one or two are kept for historical purposes.

My mistake. I read "preproduction", but my mind thought "concept".
