So I pulled the covers off for the Opg swap and they are leaking, I installed per the manual but have the leaks. Is this caused by over torque of the bolts? What kind of a gap do you see between the cover and head?

Pull them off again and check if there is a pinch point in the gasket. Clean the oil off, reinstall, drive for a bit and check. If you used new gaskets and torqued correctly, I would believe it to be a gasket issue.

Leaky valve covers.

Haven't experienced those in a long time - you got me reminiscing about the early '90s when I had my used '85 GT.

Man, I can see it now: nice summer day, buddy in the passenger seat day, t-tops off and Ratt or Tesla blasting in the tape deck - and the smell of burnt oil every now and then from the valve cover gasket oil hitting the headers.

It's too bad that, at the time, you never know you are in the good ol' days.

Anyways, doesn't help you any. Sorry, but thanks for the memories. :)

Ha, "the smell of burnt oil"!!! I remember those days well in the late 80's with my '81 Firebird with a 1970 400 ram air engine that I put in it. (And listening to Iron Maiden).
