I've read some threads on here re: the vaccuum boost gauge for the V8s, and I have some questions.

How can I determine if I have normal readings? How would I know if I have a slight vacuum leak? I've read some articles which leads me to believe that the vaccuum gauge can tell me some important information about how my engine is running.

Now onto the point. I had a heap of trouble installing the Steeda CAI. The car runs fine to me, but the attachment of the hoses make me feel very uneasy. The way it's designed, the placement of the intake tube is very critical. There's not much space and it's got to be set just right to get both sides of the clamps down good.

The metal piece that attaches to the grommets in the intake tube- it's not tight. Due to the placement of the intake tube, one of the hoses is being stretched. The metal piece - one side attaches to the rubber grommets in the tube, and the other side attaches to the hose. But because the hose is stretched, it wants to pull the metal piece out slightly, making a very loose fit. I called Steeda and they assured me this was normal because when the engine is running, the vaccuum will pull everything tight. I don't know if I am believing that.

If there is a slight vaccuum leak, I want to know about it. If so I will buy another cold air intake from another manufacturer. I want to know my car is running right and I'm getting the proper operation of the engine.

What reading should I be getting at idle? While driving but not on the throttle? What should I look for?

Here's a picture of the CAI and the hose attachment.

I should also add that my gas mileage has plummeted from where it was pre-intake install. I have datalogged my tune with the place that provided me with the tune, and they didn't find any issues with it. I may be just worrying over nothing at all. But that's why I came to you guys.

I'm trying to understand the vaccuum readings and what normal is, and what it does for my car.
