i would go with the vette. the GT will never overcome its weight disadvantage vs a corvette.
For what purpose, racing for money? Obviously a lighter Mustang would be preferred to a heavier one, and you can drop 100 or more pounds from the Mustang without too much trouble (lighter wheels, ditch the rear seat, lighter rotors.) In any case, unless you're racing for money I'd argue it really doesn't matter since there's a lot more to what makes a street car good than just being lighter than another car.

I like the c6 from the rearview. I was always mad about the headlight design as the car is really just a a c5.5 (rebodied and revised chassis not ground up new like the c7). I think they're among the ugliest of any car on the planet. When people started making home made non pop ups for the c5.. It's like the c6 design team had no budget and just copied the cheap slap 3 bulbs in a housing style. C7 did it right.

If you plan to mod both , the characteristics of both can be altered drastically via aftermarket.

I was in the same boat a two months ago when I picked up my GT. I planned on getting a 6MT LS3 C6 but stumbled upon a DIB 5.0 with 6,000 miles on it that hadn't even been prepped for sale at the dealership yet. They walked me across the lot towards a storage area and then to the second floor. There she was, my soon to be Mustang GT.

Looking back, it really was a spur of the moment decision and I probably wouldn't do it again if I could go back. I probably would've passed and waited for the right 08+ Vette to pop up on the market.

But, all in all, I'm happy with the car. I just get bored fast and am already 80% sure I'll be listing it for sale in the next week or so. Just too lazy to put it back to stock.

OP - They're both great cars. Test drive both and really take your time getting to know the cars before you decide. Like I said, if I could go back, I probably would've passed on my current car and waited for the right LS3 C6.

I just sold my 2008 LS3 vettte non z51 M6 and all I had done was Vararam CAI, American racing LT's with no cats and gutted z6z06 mufflers since they are 3" factory. I also had a Kaotik cam from vengeance racing car made 497whp and ran 10.8 at 130mph. Car was a beast for the simple mods and would put it to 11-14 mustang with paxton kits making around 580whp. but that car doesn't touch the interior of my 2016 gt auto that I have now.
