took out the rubber piece under the cupholder, cause there is supposed to be a place for the keyfob to go. Its a hole for sure, but the keyfob does not fit, and I thought there was something to put the metal key part in too, but nope. WTH?

The metal key is for the door. See manual.

you literally just place it in there with buttons up. the metal key is for unlocking the door.

honestly.... who cares? how often do you actually use the emergency method of starting your car?

I am pretty sure that it is using NFC where the car will power the key fob if it is close enough to the transmitter in the car. Used in many things like credit cards and workplace badges.

I set up a my key and I didn't need to remove the rubber part in the cup holders. It worked just fine.
