Tyres - recommendations

Just looked at my rear tyres and they're definitely due replacing. 275/40/19 on rear 255/40/19 on the front. All p-zeros. Front ones are absolutely fine.

My knowledge of tyres is somewhat limited (well, completely) What is the recommended setup, I've seen people with 285 etc, i assume wider is better on the rear? My car is not lowered, but may be in the future. No track use or anything and i do have a family so sideways action round roundabouts is less than ideal :eyebulge: so want the grippiest i can get really.

If i were to replace all, what is the ideal size setup and then i can decide if i replace all 4 or do it staged somehow.

Also an actual tyre recommendation would be great

MPSS's same size if you wish, if you start adding more power, you want wider tyres as a rule of thumb. If you're not going to, 275's in MPSS will be fine.

Michellin are releasing the new PS4S (Pilot Sport 4's) soon so worth getting them as they'll probably be better than the MPSS as they are superceding them.

Hi there

For safety you want a tyre that works well in the cold and wet, this is something the Pzero fails miserably at.

Stick to the 275/40/19 size ideally on the stock wheels or a 285/35/19 or 285/40/19 at a push.

Best wet/cold performance tyres are:
Continental Sport Contact 6
Goodyear F1 AS3
Michelin PS4
Michelin Supersport
Hankook S1 EVO 2 or K117


In the stock size though you are quite limited and if it was my car the Michelin Super Sport really is in a league by itself, its not the strongest tyre in the wet but it does communicate levels of grip at the rear very well, so you can feel when its going and its more progressive, compared to the Pzero's pretty much no warning and then towel thrown in.

So I hate to say it but MPSS, but be warned they are now end of life and all stock left at resellers is last stocks, so don't wait too long otherwise you won't be able to get. One other major plus of the MPSS is feedback and longevity, same driving style should see twice the miles from a set of MPSS compared to Pzero, particular true if you drive the car hard which you do not admittedly but still even driven gently MPSS tend to last a couple thousand miles longer. This is a real shame because the new PS4 S might not be made available in the UK in the sizes we need, of course the USA will get them and pretty much all USA owners switch from Pzero from MPSS and sing the tyre huge praises.

as for waiting too long, i think the almost baldness of them make it a today/tomorrow job.

Goodyear is a good shout, did very well in comparison tests, coming out above the MPSS. As others have said, experienced and the not so experienced, MPSS have been the product of choice on a lot of different marque's.

We recommend Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

They are our tyre of choice for our Q Series cars in Europe. In the US we work with Nitto.

Meh... I'd try to find me a used set of PZeros until my front tires wore down, then get a whole new set. I hate running two different brand/model tires (looks, performance oddities, whatever reason... just not cool to me). Probably can find some take offs for half new... at least you can around here from time to time.

Pzeros wear quicker than MPSS... they're also sh1t vs potholes :lol:

Yes. Every set of wheels I have the rear tire is wearing at effectively twice the rate as the front.

My suggestion is to replace the rear tires with someone's take off PZeros. Then when the fronts finally die, the rears will likely be done for again or close enough. Then get your MPSS or the new Michelins or whatever.

If your staying on 19" standard rims, just be mindful that Continental Sport Contact 6 and Goodyear F1 AS '3's have a limited range for 19" size and don't cover our rear wheel size.
Michelin Pilot Super Sports cover the 19" well, front and back.
As a note:- Goodyear F1 AS '2's seem to review very well and cover the 19" range front and back.
I'll still go for the Michelin's though even if they are a little dearer.
