Hi.

I'm a recent addition to the Mustang community here, while I await delivery of my 18/19MY GT.

I've tried to search out any threads on the following subject, but haven't had much success.

What engine tuning can UK Mustang owners do to their cars, without voiding their OEM warranty?

Alternatively, is their a definitive list of mods Ford UK will permit and still honour the original, new car warranty?

Cheers.

only the uk ford power packs maintain warranty from ford. there's a evans halshaw down south somewhere that sells roush/mountune stuff and "maintains" warranty work but I suspect thats dealer specific not ford.

as for list of mods basically everything you do voids warranty but only on that part. so change suspension then warranty is gone on suspension, change bonnet then warranty is gone on that part.

as we're all learning though warranty on these cars is more hassle than its worth because ford and specifically the dealerships are dogshit. so mode away don't give a fuck if you lose the warranty and enjoy it.

Thanks for the replies.

I was doing a bit more research last night where I found a YT video explaining the Roush super charger had a 'Roush' 3 year warranty, but that it wasn't the Ford warranty.

So pretty much as you were explaining, Hinch. Ford doesn't appear to cover any tuning.
I've a friend who reckoned when he bought his Volvo, he was offered an ECU stage1 map by the dealer. But then, as you point out, that could have been at the specific dealer's discrecion, risk.

Marks. Thanks for the link. I see the brochure for the 19MY lists a few more accessories now, than the 18MY brochure.
I think I'll be having a chat with my dealer about having bonnet struts and strut brace ordered and fitted.

Thanks.

I would say “Sod the Warranty” if you had a 15-17 S550 but if you’ve ordered an ‘18 I would tread carefully. There are some pretty major design changes to the gearbox and engine compared to the earlier cars.
According to YouTube these issues are massive but when you consider that people with no issues will post, and those with issues will, it may be a smaller issue?

If you want to buy a Mustang and mod it, I would seriously consider the earlier cars of which there are plenty available.

Yes, I've looked at the different packges offered and I'm staggered by some of the pricing. I had an A5 3.0 TDi, I spent £500 on an ECU map and gained, allegedly, circa 60bhp. Admittedly it was a turbo charged engine and so perhaps gains of that magnitude are cheaper with forced induction. But the V8 tuning I've seen so far has been an eye opener!

I think you're right about the knowledge/experience base for the 15/17 compared the 18MY onwards.
The manual gear box being possibly one example. If they're failing in new and what I must assume are standard GTs, then increasing engine output might not be a good move.

Strange though, a friend of mine has an FRS and with the mountune stage 1 ECU map and pipes, he still has his Ford warranty.

So, I'll just continue to wait for delivery and hope Ford sorts out the niggles with the 18MY> cars.

A tune is still on my radar, and despite the eye watering price, I tend to favour the "factory"/"oem" tunes, not fussed about warranty, but like the fact it's Ford Performance developed. Yes, I'm weird like that.

Out of interest, why would you rate the Ford tunes badly? Is that based on the price, the results/numbers, reliability? Just curious :)

It's because fords tune is a one tune fits all, it's not custom, it's not unique, therefore it doesn't account for a range of things such as your local fuel variants, your altitude, the air temps around you, drive style, condition of spark plugs etc.

The same goes for any "off the shelf tune" they're not bad, but they are >FAR< from perfect and the same car protuned will be leagues above it's off the shelf tuned compatriot.

adding to what manders said too they're very conservative as they want to give you a little poke but not run the engine to a point where variance in manufacture or environment could be an issue.

i mean the ford power pack 3 is like what £2000 ? you can achieve the same after market for about £600....... and have a tune bespoke to you what would you rather do ?

Thanks lads. At this point, i'd prefer a conservative tune and a little extra piece of mind over something a little more adventurous (sticking to the old man stigma ) As long as I can feel a difference, I'll be happy.

Anyone on here got one of the (UK) power packs?
