Hello guys, I have a 2015 manual ecoboost mustang, and I have a few questsions about a tuner. I have been doing my research on the forums, and know that Cobb tuning with an accesport seems to be a very reliable way to get more power, but while I was attending a car show last weekend I saw the rousch team advertising the JMS BoostMAX and PedalMax. I seemed a little skeptical with the reliability of the product as it just raises boost (I believe). They told me that it would not void the cars warranty. Being able to retain my warranty was something that really caught my attention with this product, but I'm not sure how safe it will be for the engine. If I was to go the hand held tuner route I would likely go with an accesport, but the only thing stopping me is that it voids the warranty. If for some reason I did have to take the car back to the dealership with a Cobb tune would I be able to reflash it to stock to keep my warranty? During my research of the JMS products, from my understanding, it just amps up the boost without changing any of the ecu components. This seems like to me to be harmful to the engine, but could someone with more knowledge than me help me out? If I go the Cobb route, will that be a safer way to make more power? I would likely go with a protune from Adam. The only thing keeping me from Cobb is the fact it voids your warranty. When you reflash back to the stock tune will it leave traces that the dealership could pick up on to void your tune? Hopefully you guys can enlighten me on all of this. I've been trying to gain knowledge from reading other posts, but haven't found any clear cut answer.

Pedalmax: http://www.jmschip.com/pedalmax-2011-2015-ford-vehicles/

Boostmax http://www.jmschip.com/boostmax-performance-for-ford-ecoboost/

Not sure... thanks for the info though. I'll have to look into this.
I have read those articles, and from my understanding BoostMAX increases boost only, while PedalMax decreases turbo lag and helps with throttle response. The Dyno graph is what makes me skeptical about the products. At the high end it drops under the stock horsepower numbers, and I don't feel like this should happen.

I would stay away from the JMS modules as you can see from this post:

Also,

It's a shame but stuff happens.

Over the years I've had customers ask whether to get a tune or not, upgrade the turbo or not and much more.

I've always said the same thing. If you can't afford to pay out of pocket to get a new motor, ecu or whatever it may be, don't do it.

In your situation I believe one of two things happened.

One is that it was indeed a faulty motor and had a loose rod bolt, perhaps loose oil pickup which caused oil starvation or 2 your Boostmax tuner over boosted in some way that slightly bent a rod or tweaked something.

Then it was only a matter of time.

It's a shame that this happened to you and I hope it works out.
The ECU has a counter that keeps track of the # of times it has been reflashed. And each time you reflash your ECU from stock ro Cobb, or whatever MAP - it increases the counter. The dealer will know you reflashed your ECU X amount of times. They just won't be able to tell what you loaded.

Also,
Ford declined the warranty on the blown engine...

Here are the mods of the blown engine... from the post:

Here is my mod list in the order they were installed.

Car purchased on 7/28/15
JMS BoostMax installed by MRT on 7/31/2015
MMR Cold Air Intake Installed by me on 8/10/2015
JMS PedalMax installed by MRT on 8/14/2015
Steeda Throttle Body Spacer installed by me on 8/19/2015

I had a coolant hose crack and leak at the end of September with about 3000 miles on the car. From there I've had issues with the hose that connects from the motor to the intake just before the turbo. I was on my way to the dealership when the engine blew to get the 3rd hose installed.

You want to stay away from any of the JMS stuff, or any of the modules out there that raise boost without any tuning changes. The factory ecu is setup monitor boost pre (TIP) and post throttle (MAP). There are limits set for both, so when the boost is raised and the stock ecu is not flashed (tuned) to adjust these limits the throttle closes to block the boost form entering the engine.

When the throttle is closed you lose a lot of "communication" between other tables. One of the biggest ones is commanded EQ. It loses part of it's calculations and the fueling can get wonky during throttle closures.

This is why cars tend to knock VERY hard when the throttle is closed. Fueling, and restriction in the system (throttle body) which reduces the engines VE.

Go with an Accessport, and drop me a line for a proper tune!

Cheers,
Adam

Not my car... hopefully my car starts when I go outside in a couple of minutes. :D

I was posting for others so they would not have to navigate to another thread to see what happened.
