I am going to be asking some more basic questions.

to date, I have changed the fuel sensor, added the Airaid tube and high flow filter.

Turbosmart vr2 here, but not yet installed.

Catted down pipe, and resonator delete are on the way from CVFab.

UPR catch can is also on the way.

ACCELATEC Axle-Back Exhaust from CJpony are already here.

I have not done the intercooler yet, but I plan to.

at this point when I get everything but the intercooler installed, will I need a tune?

I have the Cobb AP, but I have not contacted a tuner as yet.

Based on the hours of trolling here and other forums, I think I need a tune after the intercooler.

With that list of changes, I think a tune is in order. Think of it as the iceing on the cake.

As to when, that question I would depend on the tune. One size fits all tune, might not require all mode to be in place.

Custom tune would, maybe a stepped tune, as the mods are completed.

I ran last season with the factory tune and was pleased with the performance of my stock Ecoboost for the 1st thousand feet* of my 1/4 runs (*how long it takes my stock intercooler to "heat soak" with my style of driving). The only regret is the loss of data! All my data was collected after I returned to my pit. (It's hard for me to know which mods to make without real time data...) I guess what I'm suggesting is to purchase a tuner with data collection ability as step #1 of modifying your cars performance.

I would opt for a intercooler installed before you go with the tune. But answering the original question. Go with the custom tune. If you have any ecoboost mustang tech questions. Give me a call at 1.561.753.8105. Thank you. www.lethalperformance.com

intercooler is the FIRST mod. 2nd is the downpipe. Everything else is a side-show.

a tune is not required but highly recommended. Why spend $1500+ and not do the one thing that lets the whole pile work? the Ford tune is 100% certified grade-A utter C R A P. Even a no-mod car benefits greatly from a tune written by people with a clue.

Well that certainly is one opinion.

Didn't want to create a new thread for a similar question, I've been looking to get a tune. But I haven't done Intercooler or Downpipe. Is it worth getting a tune without having done those?

a pre-canned tune is only good for driving around the parking lot.
I enjoy my driving lot experience.
Im ford tuned. Very happy with the pep in its step.
Downpipe breathed more life into the tune but I went back to stock to quiet it down. Felt bad turning car on at 6am

I would recommend putting the Cobb Stage 1 on your car now. Put high-flow panel filter in the stock box and get the IC on the car as soon as you can. I agree with Shogun32 on the other things being secondary. But, I do think the canned stage 2 tune will put a grin on your face after you put the IC on. A custom tune is going to get you more power, but it does degrade the daily driving experience a bit.
