Just some numbers I scraped together, that may or may not be accurate. Sorted by torque ratings

When I was car shopping, I was interested in V8 Manual. Ford seemed to have the better engine, where as Dodge the better Transmission. And there is a number of postings of MT82 problems, albeit rather old now, that may be related to too much Coyote and not enough MT82. The Mustang is priced better than the Challenger, but if you bolt on an aftermarket Tremec, that's no longer the case.

Anyone know if the TR6060 or T-56 has reasonably light clutch that is satisfactory for use in rush hour traffic? I like my MT82 well enough but just in case I get the S/C bug and my MT82 complains

MT82 383 ft-lbs Ford 6 speed Manual
8HP70 516 ft lbs Dodge Challenger V8 Auto (2015-)
6r80 590 lb-ft Ford 6 speed Auto
TR6060 600 ft·lbf Dodge Challenger Manual
8HP90 664 ft lbs Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat
T-56 Mag 700 ft lbs aftermarket

No issues with the MT82 for me and I am making a lot more torque than 383.

Those torque ratings don't mean anything without their paired weight rating. It will show the level of torque at a given weight.

The MT-82 will be fine. The problems with the last generation models ('11 to '14) were caused mostly by the sub-par shifters that they had. The shifters would flex badly during any hard shifting, causing damage to the transmission. They would also cause partial engagement of gears, which resulted in damaged synchros and the transmission popping out of gear.

My colleague has over 10,000 miles on his '15 Mustang GT PP, not a single transmission issue to speak of. I've personally driven it, and it shifts perfectly. No noises either. The people that tend to have issues are the people who can't drive, they clash synchros and then wonder why the transmission gets damaged.

I was thinking the Coyote can get to 400 ft lb, so maxing out the MT82 would be difficult, but possible, running engine to the top of its torque curve and then dumping the clutch.

In theory you could dump the clutch on a Tremec (T-56) all day long, and have no fear of messing anything up. Premature wear on the clutch yes, but problems with metal parts, no.

This thing is advertising 500 ft lb, and at that spec, I suspect it would be easy to goof the MT82, e.g. dump the clutch at 6500 RPM :

Whipple Supercharger Kit (15-16 GT)
500 lb/ft of Torque to the pavement

Last time I dynoed my car it was putting down 515rwtq. That was with the Whipple and stock TB. I have upgraded to the 132mm since then and even though I haven't had another dyno, it feels a lot more powerful. The MT82 has no problem with that much torque, I have even seen people with more torque than that.

That is good to know.

Do we know the torque specs for the MT82? The net postings seem to be more speculation than hard data.

Also, does running a car on a dyno load up a transmission the same way as dumping a clutch at 6500 RPM ? The videos I have seen, the dyno seems way more civilized, progressively loading the transmission, rather than delivering a sudden shock.

I'll be doing a T56 magnum this winter, clutch and drive shaft. Mostly because of two reasons the stock clutch won't hold up to 550wrhp and the gear ratios of the stock transmission suck. I had a 6060 from a GT500 in my s197 and the transmission was much better than the stock one; gear ratios were better. But the single plate clutch Spec clutch held up to the hp/tor fine was heavier than stock the twin disc Mcload is the clutch I'll use this time around.

I'm on the stock clutch still and making a lot more than 550rwhp. i have done multiple launches and burn outs. The only way that I would change the MT82 is if it broke. However, it has proven to be pretty strong. If you don't like the gear ratio, change the diff gears. I have 3.73s but having 3.31s put in next week. Also, change the fluid and get a MGW. My car with MT82 shifts smoother than any other car that I have driven.

Heh, my 15 GT PP is going in to the dealer Monday for a wounded MT82. It's had a whine since day 1, but the thing sounds like a supercharger in 4th gear now. This is with bone stock power...

Just goes to show its luck of the draw with them and it has been like that since their release in 2011. My 2013 GT MT82 was silent and stronk like bull.

Mine does the same, let me know what they say!
