Hey y'all,

Its about time to replace my 'ol transmission fluid, and I’m considering alternatives to the standard Mercon LV fluid. After doing some research, I’ve narrowed it down to the following options, which seem to align well with my driving habits:
  • Signature Series Multi-Vehicle ATF
  • Royal Purple Max ATF
  • Motul Multi ATF
I’m uncertain which one would be the best fit for my 6R80, so I’d appreciate your insights to help me make a decision.

Side note: I aksed AI, but the response only left me more confused about which option to choose!

  • For smooth, consistent shifting with good performance characteristics and excellent protection against wear and high temperatures, Motul Multi ATF would be a strong contender alongside Amsoil and Royal Purple.
  • If your priority is maximum longevity and long-term smooth shifting under all conditions, Amsoil might still be the best option.
  • If you're looking for a performance-oriented fluid with slightly firmer shifts and higher performance limits, Royal Purple could be ideal.

Just run the Motorcraft LV. Your driving habits do not require a different fluid.

I don't think you can run straight ATF in the 6R80, it takes a thinner fluid hence the LV moniker on the OEM fluid. Stick with that, there's no reason to use anything else if the transmission is stock.
