I'm in the wonderful process of fielding emails and all of the joys of posting my car on craigslist. I wanted to try to sell it before the Mustang arrives to feel a little better about how much I would be getting as opposed to the haggling and back and forth while taking delivery.
Does anyone know if dealerships generally would take it in now for trade even though the mustang isn't here yet or would they give a general $ number for the trade? I know they can't be exact because if they didn't take it now, I'd still be driving it another month or so.
Anyone do that before? I'm getting tired of craigslist.

My dealer agreed to trade in value of $4,100 for my vehicle when I put in my order. I listed it on craigslist for $5,100 and it sold in less than a week for $4,700 - I came out a bit ahead. I can't imagine they would just take it in early but who knows; although that doesn't seem like the greatest idea to me for some reason.

As per Trevon's post, many dealers will agree on a price for your trade in when the order is placed, so you will already know all of the numbers before you take delivery.

Also, depending on your local tax laws and the value of your trade, the tax offset of trading a car in makes it pointless to sell it yourself, and it's obviously much easier to trade in than dealing with the hassle of selling it privately.

I think I'll bring in my trade and see what they say, although there's no taxes here in NH, it certainly is much less of a hassle to trade than deal with private sale headaches.

See if your dealer can do a courtesy trade when you take delivery. That way all the title transfer paperwork is done properly and it's on them if something were to go wrong.

If you had tax credit, you could also get that.
