I want to put new TPMS in a set of new wheels.

With prices all over the map even for so-called OEM, is there any way to know what is genuine and just as important how long the batteries will last?

Is the reason some are cheaper is they've been sitting on a shelf for 9-10 years? And what is the shelf life? I don't see on-off switches, so are the batteries being used while on the shelf? Or is there some kind of physical pressure or rotational switch that turns them on. edit: maybe they do. A search for TPMS battery life said it depends on how many miles driven. We all know if on the internet it must be true.

I know new factory ones can last for 7 years, because mine still work.

Cheapest place to get a set of no doubt OEM (without programmer)? Fund a link tor Levittown but didn't see a set without programmer and 4 Indvidual cost more than the set with programmer.

And regarding aftermarket, I see two different size/shapes. One is like the factory and the other has a larger part for the battery and electronics.

I understand every 315 sensor sends the same signals (but may need different programming) so shape may just be to fit more OEM wheels? But do the bigger ones have bigger/longer lasting batteries?

In the end, I guess the most important thing is they last as long as the tires since dis/re mounting tires to replace costs more than many sensors.

When dealing with electrical or electronics, I always buy OEM parts from a trusted reseller, dealer or Ford. I do not buy said items on EBay or like sites. Like you mentioned, you don't know how old they are, if they are counterfeit, etc.

The sensors have a battery and an accelerometer; they turn on as the wheel spins. I cannot speak to shelf life.

I bought the kit from Ford Performance:

https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-1180-B

But I know you'd like individuals, without the key. The key is not needed 99% of the time. New versions automatically sync after driving like 100 yards or so (or mine did anyway).

I checked my 2022 factory rims in the basement and found "PA6-GF35". I found a like item at CJPony Parts:

https://www.cjponyparts.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=tpms-35

https://www.cjponyparts.com/ford-ti...v6-2015-2017-ecoboost-gt-2015-2022/p/TBANDS5/

Read the details on the above part. While the initial information says up to 2020, the details say up to 2022.

Hope this helps.

stay the hell away from CJP and eBay. my Ford sensors re-sync in 1/8 mile or less. The Dodge ones took about 3-5 miles.

Thanks. They list alternatives including ones from the OEM supplier. Any reason not to trust any they sell?

Regardless, will probably order from them unless Costco will warranty (parts and LABOR) whatever they sell and nothing else about theirs is a red flag.

I notice they list standard rubber and various colored metal stems for EVERY brand they carry. Makes me wonder if the stems themself are generic and what are the pros and cons of metal (other than colors). I noticed some offer gun metal stems which might look better than black rubber or metal on my Anthracite wheels.

Answering my own question: apparently metal stems have a potentially shorter lifespan mostly due to stress at contact with wheel from any bending forces that rubber absorbs.

the stems are universal (with rare exception).

What you want are rubber stems with optional metal 'sheeth' that press-on. The true metal stems use some combo of o-ring and plastic 'washer'/shim to fit the hole and the assembly is secured by hte metal collar screwed down. If the sheath rattles it will take pressure off the o-ring and lead to leaks. Granted a quick twist with a wrench should put an end to it. But rubber basically never fails and can withstand being bent and tugged on.

Yeah, will stick with rubber. And Costco counter guy says they won't install customer supplied TPMS. But they also claim the ones they sell are the factory ones. They charge $47 each which is competitive if actually the OEM ones.

I need to confirm theirs are OEM not just some BS from the counter guy. If really OEM, I'll buy from them. If not, I'll either "talk them into" installing ones I supply, not freak if I install TPMS before they get the wheels OR install mine but don't program. The ONLY reason I can imagine for them not installing supplied TPMS is hassles if they are bogus or incompatible with the car. But can't rule out some shit law that makes it illegal to sell tires and not program TPMS. LoL
