I just had the tires rotated by the dealer. Then I wondered if they had gone through the process of "relearning" where each tire now is (Front were moved to the back and back are now up front). The dealership said they had not needed to do this before. I called another ford service center and was told that the TPM's automatically communicate which wheel they are now on.

Is this true or do I need to have them reset?

Thanks

I rotate my own tires and have been amazed they relearn on their own. :-) Just let a couple pounds out of one and check the monitor. It works.

The sensors are by the wheel well so they would register the strongest signal.

Just curious.. why would I have to "program" them if I had installed new RIMS using either my stock TPM or new ones? Or are the TPM senders in each tire just sending pressure data to the receivers by each wheel? That's why it doesn't matter which tire is placed on a particular wheel?

You don't have to program when you reuse the sensor. If you have new sensors, you need tools to program them to the system.
The receivers are by the wheel wells so they only pick up signal and data from that particular wheel.

Incorrect, you no longer need to re-program. I've had 4-different sets of wheels/tires on my 2015 Mustang, all with new TPMS sensors. Within 5-miles or so, the new sensors begin reporting pressures from the new tires.

That's good to know.
