This is why the cobra jet went back to the SRA. IRS is better on the street and road course but SRA Will always be better for the strip.
Lol, yeah, I saw the SRA in their video.

Cobra Jet runs the solid rear axle because it's a class requirement.

Mine failed on a 3500 rpm launch. When my torsen decided to self destruct, it took one of my Ford Racing half shafts with it. I won't launch my car again.

Oh, that was actually a easy launch. I use to launch my damn EVO at 7000 rpms while building 15psi at the launch. Had around 200 launches on that car and nothing broke.
If that's in fact the case then you just got extremely lucky with your Evo. Those damn things are well known for tearing out various driveline components even when launched on the street without a boosted launch.

The rear ends in our cars are bulletproof to begin with, the torsen helps with handling but it's good with taking hard off the line with both tires spinning at the same rate . If you want to know how the torsen rears hold up ask any gt500 owner in the s197 later models and all of the boss 302 models . never heard of a failure from the torsen
Sigh.... No, the Torsen isn't good with "taking hard off the line with both tires spinning at the same rate". If you haven't heard of failures, you haven't been paying attention to the forums where people are actually pushing them.

Couple reasons why what you are saying is inaccurate:

1.) A Torsen doesn't work when both wheels are spinning at the same rate, there is no biasing, and when both wheels are spinning it is constantly biasing which is changing the speeds of the side with the least grip (speeding up one and slowing down the other). The extreme example of this is getting the wheel light enough and watching the Torsen send all the torque to the wheel with the least grip like an Open diff works. You can basically treat a Torsen like an open diff when "bad things" happen. The only time a Torsen is biasing is when there is a difference in wheel speeds, like in a corner.

2.) The worm gears in Torsen rear diffs are relatively small. It, and the differential case where the worm gears are, generally are the two failure points. They fail because of shock loading, not torque/HP. If it shocks the rear diff, it will kill a Torsen if done hard, often. That's why the Torsen is a HORRIBLE diff for drag racing. It's a tradeoff in the design for the advantages in cornering ability, which is what the Performance Package is oriented towards.

3.) The 8.8 used in our IRS is far from bullet proof... It's strong, but it has it's own issues. Heat being the biggest, half shafts, and the housing itself, are not that strong, hence why manual transmission cars have cast iron diff housings and auto's don't. The R&P gear and most of the diff options are pretty robust units, but perfect they are not...
