I've got ~6500 miles on the original PZeros and the rears are SHOT. Amazing how fast my rears wore down. I have launched the car maybe 3-5 times but other than that, there is no overly aggressive launching or burnouts. I do like some spirited curvy-road driving though. I have noticed that as the tires wore, the traction went WAY down hill. I've had Sumitomo HTR Z IIIs that had better traction when worn and they also lasted longer.

Having said all that, what is a good tire that keeps its traction even when getting a little worn and gets more miles than the PZero? I've been eyeing the Continental ExtremeContact Sport (can't find any comparison tests) and of course the Pilot Super Sports. Wet traction or sub 50℉ traction doesn't really matter to me. I've had and liked the HTR ZIII tires in the past but get annoyed with their traction when worn too.

They all suck below the wear bars. Tread compound changes to harder structural stuff when the tire is that worn so yeah.

I've heard the MPSS uses a multi layer construction so as it wears out and heat cycles add up, the wear exposes softer layers or something. Other tires may do the same. I've only got <1 year and 10k miles on my current set, but they seem to be holding up well with still more than half their tread life left, and I also toasted my Pirellis in 6k miles.
