My personal preference would have been the clip on set, as to remove at dusk. I do get your point but I've just seen , here in Indiana with no vehicle inspection, a LOT of cars more dangerous than tinted head lights. Seriously especially winters and springs. I wish I'd taken the pic of a car I seen the other day with wires and bungee cords holding the hood down,,, lol

I agree with you guys, if I had to make a list of the things about cars that are the most dangerous, tinted lights wouldn't be at the top. I also agree that some cars have brighter OE lights than others and that some cars might SEEM like they are bright enough even with tinting...but what about in the rain, snow, sun in someones eyes and your lights must be bright enough to overcome and be noticeable.

Just saying that it simply 1 - increases your risk of being in an accident and 2 - increases your liability if you're in an accident. We can go back and forth all day about "to what degree" the tinting increases these risks but the fact is, they "do" increase them, so personally, I'll pass.

Besides the safety/risk factor, I have other subjective opinions on tinting lights. IMO, it's something that people do for either a "murdered out" effect or just because they are looking for fun little mods to do to their cars. I guess I'll have to pay closer attention but thinking about it, I don't think I've seen any (hardly any) higher-end sports cars and exotics with tint over their lights.

I should add - some people take it way too far, IMO.

Let's tint the windows (I'm in Florida, so this will be happening) - This decreases driver visibility to a degree, especially at night.
Let's then tint the FRONT glass (I'm not doing this, no way)
Then let's tint the headlights to decrease the (lumens?..if that's the correct term?), making it even harder to see through the now tinted front windshield.
Then let's tint all of the markers and taillights.

Then let's go driving at night, in the rain. Recipe for disaster, IMO. Not only did you make it harder for the old lady to see you, you've likely increased your reaction time to be able to avoid a potential accident from the people who cant see you.

Of course, this is generalizing and like I agreed, some cars are "brighter" than others but you might be able to imagine how these things could compound, causing an undeniable increase in risk.

You are 100% correct in you statements. I don't think anyone can ague that. Sometimes common sense has to prevail. For instance, I live in a place where it snows A LOT!!! (actually its snowing now:headbonk:). And because of this, I will drive only if necessary or put my truck in 4WD just in case. That's common sense, right? This is the type if thinking that I apply for tinting. My car will be a weekend driver and if I cant put the top down, it will probably sit in my garage. So basically on sunny days, and not nights, I will be driving it. I realize that tinting will degrade my light output, so I will do my due diligence and not drive my car after dark, or at least not in poorly lit areas. (Again, common sense)

I have been driving for probably longer than a lot of members here have been born and I am a 'common sense' driver. (Please note I did not say "Good Driver") You sound like you are as well. But some people with tints, I would think, should/could/would have a greater awareness of other drivers more than a person driving an "off the lot" Fusion.:D Here lies the problem; not everyone thinks that way.

But you have made excellent points and the compound effect or the tint "everything" is undeniable.:)

Vehicle inspections should be mandatory everywhere. It would keep a lot of junk off the road:thumbsup:

I've been talking about nighttime driving a lot but when I think about it - some of the hardest to see tinted taillights are the ones out in the bright sun. Those lights need to compete with sunlight, glare and a lot of other reflective surfaces.

All we can do is be careful - Like I said, I don't always follow traffic rules....but when I don't, my lights aren't tinted ;)

Just curious, but are DRLs mandatory in Florida?

Might want to think about that, back when Oklahoma had vehicle inspection headers were an illegal exhaust modification and would not pass inspection.

I get it. No system is perfect. We have no inspections either, well until the car is resold. But there is a lot of crap out there on the roads that have no business being anywhere but in a junk yard. :)

I think some are really thinking these things are just blacked out, they look much darker in pics than in person. I just drove home on 80/94 toll road middle of the night, jumped out got in my 13 F150 for work and I'm telling you not that much difference. the only time I really noticed bad visibility was when I got off on some back road in Georgia on a really dark night. All I had to do was slow down just a bit. I'd like to consider my self a responsible 45 year old male,,,, but

you don't know what your missing with tinting the front glass in florida. even if you just get a 70% or 50% tint the UV and heat reduction is amazing. I have 50% and you would never know its tinted if I didn't tell you. now looking out my 3% side windows at night is a different story. the windows go down when I back up

Up here in Indiana we can go I think is 30%, but got a got that will do 20%. You can black everything out rear of driver 30% front doors and NO windshield at all 4 inches from roof line.

Florida is about the same. 35% drivers windows, 20% rear windows, nothing allowed on windshield below the as1 line which is basically non existent. Almost every tint place here does illegal tint for a small extra fee. All my vehicles have gone straight in for 5% tint minimum.

I'm sure! I'd do the front in clear UV tint. There was a link around here somewhere.
