Hey Guys,

I'm seriously considering doing the smoked/ tinted taillights. Just wanted some feedback from those who have them. Are you happy with the look over stock? Does it diminish visibility? Any problems with cops busting balls? Thanks in advance

I've done them, got mine from Bigworm graphics ( went with gunsmoke) easy install, just need patience and take your time. No problems with any thing. It's all up to you what you want to do.

I actually love how yours look! They don't look too dark. Just right. I think I'm going with the same

I had mine done and like the look over stock, but check your state law. Some states are VERY restrictive on light tinting.

If you get in an accident guess who they're going to blame? Yup illegal tinted lights couldnt see you well. Plus your insurance not paying our the claim

Big Worm tint (charcoal, their darkest) and I love it. I'm not worried about the light output because the stock lights are crazy bright. I've gotten pulled over a couple of times in the daytime and they never said a word about the taillights.

Thanks! Yes I have all the lights and reflectors done in charcoal, except for the headlights which are done in their lightest tint.

I have a full tint kit from AM sitting in my garage waiting for my car. Wait is getting longer and longer:headbonk:

I am not worried about the heads being tinted. Gonna be a summer daytime/weekend car anyway.

I've gone through this before but I'll do it again here.
Illinois state law:
(625 ILCS 5/12-208) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-208)
Sec. 12-208. Signal lamps and signal devices.
(a) Every vehicle other than an antique vehicle displaying an antique plate or an expanded-use antique vehicle displaying expanded-use antique vehicle plates operated in this State shall be equipped with a stop lamp or lamps on the rear of the vehicle which shall display a red or amber light visible from a distance of not less than 500 feet to the rear in normal sunlight and which shall be actuated upon application of the service (foot) brake, and which may but need not be incorporated with other rear lamps. During times when lighted lamps are not required, an antique vehicle or an expanded-use antique vehicle may be equipped with a stop lamp or lamps on the rear of such vehicle of the same type originally installed by the manufacturer as original equipment and in working order. However, at all other times, except as provided in subsection (a-1), such antique vehicle or expanded-use antique vehicle must be equipped with stop lamps meeting the requirements of Section 12-208 of this Act.
In Illinois you can tint your brake lights all you want as long as they are visible from 500 feet.

My tail lights are tinted with a kit from the Anchor Room.
I don't get to pick the weather, overcast that day, 12:00 pm Chicago time. Parking lot at the local strip mall.
522 feet, 500 feet put me right in an aisle. Pictures taken with my cellphone. I wanted the worst case scenario for images.
As you can see 500 feet is a long way and the brake lights are visible. Standing there taking the pictures I could see the lights but they weren't blinding by any stretch.
I say it would be hard to be rear-ended and say you couldn't see the brake lights at 500 feet.
Traveling at 60 mph you cover 88 feet per second. To cover 522 feet takes 5.9 seconds. Assuming both cars are traveling 60 mph and my Mustang brakes from 60 to 0 in 250 feet that adds an additional 2.8 seconds of time to contact. Thats 8.7 seconds from the time my brakes lights illuminate until a vehicle behind me makes contact. Thats really a lot of time and distance.
I feel that the odds of my brake lights being to dim to be seen in time to avoid a collision are far too small for me to worry about. I'm fairly certain most rear end collision are due to inattention rather than brake lights being to dim.
Also remember that the tint only covers 2 of the 3 sides of the 2015 Mustang's tail lights. There is still an untinted portion of the taillight exposed. That will always make the tinted lights appear brighter.
Again, know your laws and you'll be ok.

Thanks for all your input guys! I've decided on the gun smoke tint from Big Worm. Ive been on American Muscle and other sites. They all seem to just offer the charcoal which is a little too dark for my taste!

I have the Anchor Room front amber tint and the complete rear end tint kit. I just need a warm, not raining day to install it all. Friggin weather is uncooperative! :frusty:
