Hey everyone,

Trying to choose a company to apply window tint. Can someone tell me how it is applied? Does it go on the inside or the outside of the glass?

I'm looking over various company web sites, and I'm seeing pics of application on the outside being trimmed with razor blades. Makes me a bit nervous.

Any advice on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Tint is applied from inside. Some shops do the precut tint so it doesn't need to be cut again during application.

Shops have large rolls of certain % tints. The percentage indicates how much light it will let pass through. Therefore, 5% tints are (much) darker than 35% tints. To give oyu a point of reference, the "stock" privacy glass darkness that comes on cars today is about 20-30% (somewhere in between).

Shops will cut a section big enough for the window in question, measure the needed amount via the outside surface of the glass. When they cut it appropriately, they will clean the inside, spray the adhesive/liquid, and apply it on the inside. The tints need to cure for 3-7 days (different tint shops will give you different lengths).

For certain windows (like the rear), the window itself is "round". In this case, they apply the window tint on the outside, measure and cut, and then heat shrink it to form along to the curvature of the glass. Then they do the same as any window, and apply it from the inside.
