Kyle: First off, in my limited experience with ceramic, dust doesn't care. :-) I'm down in Corpus and it's pretty windy most of the time. I try to keep the garage doors closed but you know how that is. Anyway, mine gets dusty in one day.

As to whether you're dealing with a coated vehicle or not, the previous posters are on the right track with beading and sheeting water. But, I'm guessing that the seller told the store it was coated and that would be a selling point. Consequently, I would have thought that they'd brag about that during the negotiations.

Bottom line, if you can't get water to lie flat with a hose, it either has a ton of wax or, it was coated. You could probably take it to a PPF shop and ask them to check for ceramic. (Film won't stick well to it and they know that you have to polish the coating off before applying film.) So, they may be able to tell you.

Bottom line. If it is coated, it will last much longer than a wax job so just keep an eye on things when rinsing.

In any case, enjoy it until it wears off.

As an example of ceramic beading, here's my roof after a rinse. With a coating, it is impossible to get water to lie flat.

Thanks for the detailed answer and the example of the water beads.
Yeah, the dealership I bought it from didn't even look in the trunk, much less pitch whether it was coated or not!
It had a full set of katzkin leather seat covers back there, and an X pipe I just discovered the other day.
Had 2% tint all around and about 25% on the windshield.
Of course THAT had to come off.
So the previous owner spent some money on it for only putting 2980 miles on the clock.
And yeah, Corpus is windy alright.
I've learned to never wear my favorite ball cap down there!

It's touchless just uses soap & pressure wash off. There's no way I'd use one with the spinning brushes that touch the car.
I've been trying to find a truly Touchless car wash around me.
A place I looked up online advertised touchless.
I pulled in and my car got covered with multicolor soap, then I saw the big roller of spinning crap coming at me, I had to back out of there!
Took it to the next bay and washed it with a high pressure wand.
Then drove it home through a rain shower, stopped in at the auto parts place to get some micro fiber towels, came out to it being sleeted on. Oy vey......
And it STILL looked clean the next day. Which is what prompted this thread. šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

Had a friend back in 96 who took his truck through a wash that someone had tied a couple bolts to the finger things that spins. Ruined the top of the cab & hood busted the windshield. Lesson learned a long time ago!:lipssealed:
Whew.

Here both styles are called touchless as the human hand doesn't touch it.

B: Losers like that should be in prison, geeze.

Kyle: Copy all. Way cool on the extra goodies but roger on the tint. Man it must have been like night time in that cockpit. :-) What a waste although I'm sure you will or have come back with the correct tint. Sure made a difference last summer for me.

The favorite ball cap thing gave me a good chuckle.

After the delivery it was getting dark and I took it to a local self serve car wash.
After rinsing it off I took it for a short drive to help dry it a little.
By now it was dark and I literally couldn't see the driveway of the business I was trying to turn around in!
I knew it was dark but was shocked when an inspection place put their meter on it.
And I couldn't even tell the windshield was tinted till I took it off.
I'd guess it was around 35% or so. The pic is the windshield tint I took off.
Yeah. I'll be getting the front windows redone pretty soon.
Just gonna leave the back window and little side ones.
Even though it does interfere with driving a little.
BTW, beautiful GT500!

Thanks man, I really appreciate that.
I loved this color since it came out!
My 20yo daughter has been pestering me to "get white. Get white. Get white."
And I would have if this particular car hadn't come up for sale.
I've had a pic of a similar one on my pantry door for over a year!
Daughter has actually come around after seeing it in the driveway for a week.......

It’s ok I get that a lot from newbies. But welcome and like I said, beautiful color. Enjoy!
