My factory shift knob became loose in about 4 months. Tightened it up but it wasn't aligned right. And there's no jam nut. I wanted a CJ Pony Parts knob anyway so I simply unscrewed the factory knob. No effort at all. I used low strength Loctite (the purple stuff) to put on the new knob. Hasn't come loose yet. IMHO, there's no need for the medium strength Loctite that comes with the knob. Low strength is just fine. I'm definitely liking the CJ Pony Parts knob better than the original.

The only way your getting red to let go is with a torch. When I had my GT I swapped it out for a GT350 knob. When tight the knob was not straight. Drove me crazy. Got mine lined up and backed off it so the reverse lockout would work. I then counted the time it rotated to get it off. Added some red locktite and an hour later it was welded to the shaft.

I've never liked the steel shift knobs or cue ball type knobs. I honestly prefer an Alcantra knob but unless it looks identical to the GT350 knob, I'm not swapping it out.
Auto fanatic sells the oem knob wrapped in Alcantara

Autofanatic is a crook.

He is selling subwoofer package that he claims the subs are custom tuned. Lol

I have zero desire to do that mod. I actually like the feel of the OEM. OP is right tho. His car. His money. His work of art.

Stop messing with your knobs people, and be proud of the one it was born with.
If I didn't mess with my knob, I couldn't have gotten this.
