Thinking of getting a Roush AB

Hello all,

I am thinking of getting a Roush axle back for my ’15 gt. I need some information before I decide.

- How much is the usual cost of having a shop install one for you (I don’t have the means or the skill to do this install)?
- I plan on keeping the old mufflers so that when I sell this car, I will reinstall the old and use the current Roush for my next GT (I plan to get another GT in 3-4 years). Is this a good idea?
- For those who have the Roush axle back, how much have you guys paid for one? I want to find a nice deal.

- UPDATE: Just saw the "group purchase" thread. I'll give the vendors a call after I have some of these questions answered.

Give us a call at the office tomorrow and we will help shed some information in regards to the questions you have. We don't do install work here, but we have a local shop that can give us a good idea of what they would charge to give you a ball park.

We have them on the shelf and ready to go.

I paid $80 for my Roush AB install.

I did not keep my factory mufflers but some folks do. Up to you.

I got mine from Terry (Beefcake Racing) and got it in 2 days. I won't share the price but call or PM him for his best deal.

I don't think keeping the old ones will help. The pipe has to be cut for install on the 15.

Drone is what I am afraid of. As for cutting, I do realize that we do have to cut. However, if I go back to the old, can't I just weld it back?

Lastly, is this a relatively easy install? Meaning, can I trust most mechanics to do this without f-ing up? There will be instructions, right?

I run an MRT H resonator delete with ROUSH ABs and there is no drone while cruising. More so if you retain the stock resonator. However, you will hear it if you get on the gas. (sound / tone isn't drone & vice versa) Sound is still controllable depending on how much you stomp on the gas pedal.

Cutting into the stock pipe at the muffler bends is a no brainer. Not unless the guy with the sawzall is a complete moron. In a nutshell, it should be idiot-proof.

As for re-using the stock mufflers, a competent shop can fabricate a coupling to mate up to the cut portions of the pipe coming off the mufflers. They can then open up the other side of the coupling to slip into the rest of the exhaust. Either weld or band clamp the fitting together & call her done. Basically, making axle-backs out of the stock mufflers.

A competent mechanic should be able to tackle the install. Takes less than a minute to cut a pipe; 2 minutes tops for both sides. Measure thrice & cut once. Again, just double check if that particular mechanic does exhaust installs. Unfortunately, not all mechanics are created equal.

I do mod work / installs on all my vehicles, its personal preference. I reckon it helps to have a garage as well. ;) Definitely not for everyone.

I have Roush AB with the resonator left in...no drone at all. Fairly quiet when you want it to be LOUD at throttle. I love it.

I live in the Atlanta, GA area. Got it at my local muffler shop (not a chain shop, locally owned). The guy that does the work has been working there for 20 years and is a big muscle car guy. He is in his late 50's. Does quality work, too
