Thinking about purchasing

So I am part of the vw tdi dirty diesel deal I own a 2014 tdi and I am going to have them buy it back it seems like that is the better deal. It's been an okay car the 610 miles a tank is whole reason I got it but now I'm just starting to think life is too short to get good gas mileage and I could use a fun car now. I am looking at the base GT maybe with performance package ? But don't have the budget to go that high it will all depend if I catch any good sales or anything a long those lines. I was hoping some of you could help me out because those GT will be a daily driver it won't be shy of getting miles so I keep hearing rumors on and off about GT owners with the base model gearing seeing high 20's to 30 mph highway? Also would the performance track package be worth the extra because of the different gearing and all that? Hoping to go test drive a base GT but I don't want to touch a automatic seems like around my area a base GT manual is hard to come by thanks for the feedback

High 20s highway aren't hard to do even with Performance Pack gearing. But with any GT, the stop and go mileage will kill the average. Lots of people post they get average mileage in the teens. Can you do better? Yeah, but not if you plan to have more fun than your TDi.

Thanks yeah I would plan to have more fun haha. For daily driving though my whole commute is one stop light 2 miles from home then whole way to work is 65mph highway with very little traffic

PP will give you worse MPG due to 3.73 gearing, but a tighter ride. The non PP GT felt like my old Cadillac coup de ville. I think the PP is worth it. Don't count on high 20's. If I absolutely grandma (shift at 1800 RPM) drive on the highway I can get 30mpg, but its not really practical. The fun of the GT is winding the motor up to 4k on shifts, and that eats gas.

Wow 610 miles to a tank is amazing! No wonder they are recalling them, government greed, anywho, my 16 gt pp manual 3.73 averages 22.7 mpg commuting but will drop quickly if i play. We dont have emmisions testing in georgia except atl metro surrounding counties.

Don't worry about the 3:73 rear gear. Let the six speed tranny worry about it.

High 20s highway aren't hard to do even with Performance Pack gearing.

Even driving conservatively (cruise control at 70mph, long highway stretches) I've never had better than 24mpg over a tank on my GT/PP.

Driving conservatively around town I get about 21mpg through the course of a tank, though.

If you aren't planning to track the car I'd skip on the PP option. You can always add aftermarket suspension bits later if you want to tighten up the ride.

I've got aGT with 3.331 gears and over 16,000 miles I've averaged 20.5MPG. This include very bad traffic for 25 miles everyday. So if you do mostly freeway without traffic you could do even better. I also don't drive slow, so I could do better.

Should be right at or slightly under $30k for a base GT. My 2016 with performance package was $32900 OTD

I'm part of the TDI scandal as well. I have a 2013 Jetta and will also be selling it back. The VW was a great commuter car which averaged 43-45 MPG and for that reason, I will miss it. Actually, now that I think about it, I wont miss it since I already ordered my Whipple knowing I have the VW cash coming in the fall! :cheers: See ya VW, hello Whipple!!

We are selling my wife's 2010 TDI back and bought a 2014 CPO 328d, same or better MPG and way nicer car. Only downside is the maintenance.

I would suggest looking at the Consumer Reports website and doing their build and buy program. I used it for my 2016 GT PP, and it was right there with the X-plan pricing, if not a bit better. Plus, you can search the local inventory. My GF also used it to get a fantastic deal on a Mazda 6.

You'll get a better deal on a 2016, but your choices may be limited.
