Deer (animal) whistles. Makes a high pitch whistle (inaudible to us) at 35 mph and above.
Hit One deer and total your car, and you will keep putting them on all your cars from then on.

The instructions that came with my deer whistles said they work best when mounted 12-18" apart, so I put them on top of my bumper.

As you can see one whistle is in the brake cooling shute on the right side, the other is in the same place on the other side, Hence, about 40" apart. I think that about covers it.
