Do you think the new torsen is redesigned or the same as all the older 05-14s?

It would have to be nearly all new, since there have been massive changes to the assembly as a whole. On top of that, since the old Torsen was added to the S197 late in its life, and the new one seems to have been assumed from the S550's inception, I'd bet (or hope, anyway) that its tuned and matched to the car better than the old one.

I think the ring and pinion are the same diameter. It looks like the pinion is just beefier than a stock 8.8 now. I bet its not long for the aftermarket to catch up. I am glad i got 3.31 so I never have to change them.

Still 8.8 but much larger pinion bearing so while they are the same size the pinion shaft size has been increased significantly.

I would guess that if the pinion has been beefed up like that, then the ring is different too. I agree that the aftermarket will catch up and produce other ratios (and other differentials), but keep in mind that if this "Super 8.8" isn't used anywhere else, then it won't have the economy of scale that the old 8.8 enjoyed. Upgrade parts won't be nearly as inexpensive, especially considering that any aftermarket parts will have to be substantially stouter than what the 8.8 was designed for...
