The speedometer accuracy is going to get me ticketed.

I've spent the last 15 years driving German and Japanese vehicles. All of them added about 3 mph around town and about 5 mph to the speedometer at highway speeds. The damn Mustang is showing the actual speed, and I keep thinking I'm going 5 mph slower.

I'm going to get picked off by cop behind a bush. I can see it coming.

Do you also set your clocks ahead 15 min so you're not late? ;)
My wife does this and annoys the crap out of me when I drive her car lol. She also never changes it for daylight savings...

Well, it's more as if Verizon had been doing it to my phone (which sets my watch) and then suddenly stopped.

I was totally just having little fun. I notice passing a speed limit sign with the radar read out that my speedo is only 1-2 slower than the sign reads. My M3 was a good 4-5 mph. It creates a false sense of rebelisum...

I had a customer bring in their car with a copy of a speeding ticket and demanded we check their speedometer to bring to court with them verifying it wasn't their fault. Too bad for them I downloaded a GPS speedo app on my phone and verified that their speedometer was in fact dead on.

This is apparently why the Germans fudge all the speedometer displays high. The manufacturers can apparently be held liable for the fine if the customer can prove the speedometer is reading low, or at least to avoid any hint of being dragged into it.

Put some wheel/tires that are slightly smaller than stock. :like:

My acura read about 72 when i was going 70. So I'd set at 72 and be going a nice safe 70. This car with stock tires seems dead on. So i just treat it as such.

Then treat it as if the speedo is true speed, and your always around the speed limit, if your just a bit over. If your having fun and "actually" speeding more than 5 over, a lil safety buffer isn't saving you anyways.

US standard is +/- 5MPH at 50. International standards (EU) are never lower than actual speed and 110% at test speed (or something like that). You can re-calibrate yourself (certainly recommended if you have non-OEM diameter tires).

Boy, does this vary by state. If I'm in the middle lane on 495 South going home in the evening, I'll find myself doing 80 against a 65 mph limit just staying with traffic.

It's the same here. But if they want to be a dick, they'll ticket for it. I had a buddy get a ticket for literally 70 in a 65 when he moved to nevada. The cop said we take pride in our safe highways. (this was in nevada, but with cali plates. Local plates he likely would have been fine, and has been since he got nevada plates)

I was driving through Oregon (WA to CO) and a cop was hanging out in the only other lane but running my plates I guess? I let off the gas and we had both lanes (I was in the right lane, he was in the left) stacked with traffic as we decelerated to 30mph (limit was 60) before he pulled me over. Gave me a warning for my aftermarket taillights reflecting the wrong color. Had me on the side of the road for almost 30 minutes. Only time I've had this kind of issue with a cop, must have been a bad day for him?

The mini cooper speedo reads 3 or 4 slower in the areas with signs that tell you how fast you're going.
