Use a real light 3m liquid rubbing compound and a microfiber. Apply in a back/forth motion and remove the same way. Not in a circle. Start with light pressure and get more aggressive incrementally if it doesn't come out the first time.

Same thing I used to get scratches off my stripes from the factory. Worked like a charm.
Thanks for the advice. Sounds like this is the product you used?

After all was said and done (that was a relatively useless preamble) I decided to have the Modesta treatment. I'm set up for next week. The youtube videos are so stunning, especially those by the Dutch guy, Serge, I couldn't resist. Another factor I considered is that there are relatively few detailers certified to use the product and one of them happens to live ten miles from me. This guy takes his job very seriously. He came out to my house and inspected every inch of my car with some sort of defect-detecting light. He pronounced my two week-old finish "not too bad" and estimated about six hours of pre-coating correction/preparation. The entire process will take three days.
