^ good thing you got white bro, easiest to keep clean. Unless a black car was given to me, I would avoid it.

What are your plans when washing the car? Foam spray and two buckets?

Did you invest in covering the plastics?

I went to my local detailer (5 mins away) detail maniacs. In talking with them it appears cquartz finest and opticoat pro are very similar products on quality. With opticoat pro having been released most recently, and not many examples of how it holds up long term. The person I talked to gave the nod to cquartz for that reason. Looking at about $1000 for the single stage treatment, about $1200-1300 for the two stage treatment.

How do these coatings compare to clear bra covering?

They don't compare at all. I will get xpel when i get my car. A coating won't do much to protect against rock chips.

Thanks. I think I'm going to end up in the coin flipping mode. I've got two places in mind. One uses SunTek, the other 3M. Both are about $2800 for the full car, to include prep. Each also says it will take 3 days for prep and wrap, although the 3M place said that thinking I wanted front only. So, they may take a day or so longer. One of the two is a couple hour drive, which adds a minor bit of pain and a minor risk of chips en route. Both have strong reputations though. One is very near the Porsche plant and seems to have a lot of Porsche-related clientele, but as particular as Germans are about their cars (especially Southern Germans) neither is likely to do a bad job. I plan to visit them next week and look at their work, so we'll see what happens from there. The forum has been extremely helpful, both the OP with this post and Derand.

Yeah Andre ( Derand ) knows is stuff . I will probably end up just doing the front, partial hood , behind front wheels and maybe rocker panels.

I don't like the idea of having the whole car wrapped, but that's just me.

Surprise visit is always a good thing, but as you have said, if they mostly do high end cars, i'm sure you'll be in good hands.

I generally hand wash with a quality carnuba based soap once a month, and quick detail the rest of the time. Dry in the garage with my shop vac. Nothing too crazy. Buddy of mine just got one of those setups that runs the water through these charcoal filters to eliminate contaminants and hard water. I'm thinking getting the good ceramic coating on now to last for the next 5-7 years so I don't have to wax all the time and be as OCD

The PPF and ceramic coating can be used in conjunction. It appears the ceramic coating can be added before the clear bra is installed, or on top of it. They will do a 2 stage on the part of the car without the PPF, but only the single stage where the PPF is installed. montreal ponies is correct though. The PPF is going to be for rock chip protection and hard hits. The Ceramic coating is for preventing stains from the environment, paint fade resistance, scratch protection, and overall looks. Two different products that can be used together.

Thanks! I plan to PPF the entire car, so I guess single stage is the answer if I also go with ceramic. I'll talk to the guys later this week. Thanks again.

I don't mean to side track the paint discussion since there is great info here. I took a drive today between the rain and ended up with a good size bird shit on one of my hood stripes. I got the car home and washed it off within an hour but it had already etched into the stripe. I have a non-R so my stripe is gloss blue. Any advice on what product to use to safely remove the etching on the vinyl stripe?

Use a real light 3m liquid rubbing compound and a microfiber. Apply in a back/forth motion and remove the same way. Not in a circle. Start with light pressure and get more aggressive incrementally if it doesn't come out the first time.

Same thing I used to get scratches off my stripes from the factory. Worked like a charm.

I've had good success with this product that I found at Walmart in the Dallas area. I used it on the vinyl stripes of my Boss for problems similar to what you've described. Don't let the Black Max name fool you - it works on any color vinyl. I've also use it as a preventive coating. Doesn't streak.

Fixed that right up for you buddy
Heres a teaser. Picked the car up today and it looks amazing. Looks so deep and like its always under water. Detailer took a few pics but the sun was setting so they're not the best and I still don't have my chin splitter on. This was taken in their clean room last night where they do vinyl work. Hopefully this coming weekend I'll try and get some nice pics of it along with my brothers C63S and a friends 997 GT3

I went for Mckees 37 paint and wheel coatings and pinnacle black label diamond coat. Anyone tried any of these or similar coatings over stripes?

I know it's been done with Cquartz but I like to do my own detail and wasn't sure about going that route.
