Matt, can I ask why you decided to let your dealer fix go. I am yet to get something but it is probably next on my to do list.

Herewith a shot of of my "fix" for the "no spare wheel" issue...
(call me " old school " if you will , BUT, gotta have me a a proper spare !!!!!!! )
This is a stock front wheel with a genuine "Ford" jack kit...
Ford quoted $1000 for a front rim, & $400 for the " Pirelli "...
This set up cost me under $270...
Obviously compromises boot space a tad, but if that's not an issue
it's an easy, neat, affordable option
DISCLAIMER : ( no " Zombies" were were adversely affected in the making of this " fix ")
Most would have addressed this problem by now, BUT if any one is interested
in the "how to" let me know ...

Hi Mick. Yes I am interested in your how to as well.
Okay...not "rocket science" here, & pretty basic...

1. Obtain a FRONT stock Wheel - $200 ( E/BAY ...from a "Gold Coast" Wrecker...They bob up from time to time

....a wrecker on GC wrecking 2 ATM )

2.Source a "Jack Kit " ( $40) - ("Boss" wreckers "Tingalpa" ...genuine " Ford AU" )

...Jack handle socket fits the Lug nuts.

3. Tyre cover - $25 (Ali Express )

4. Cut hole in top cover to suit ...jigsaw or side cutters will do it..

I used original hold down nut to secure tyre...cut off thread part ...drilled & tapped in bigger thread to

accommodate long skinny threaded piece (Bunnings ) you see in pic...really NOT

needed as these tyres are way HEAVY & will never move !! (unless you plan

on tipping the Stang on its roof ! )...

(Last pic shows a "boot mat" that covers the set up, if I do need to transport 'Zombie '

parts or the like ...not pretty, but functional !)

Thanks Mick. I can't really tell from the photos but about how much higher than the original wheel well top does your spare sit. Also, do you know the name of the GC wrecker.

Pete , it sits about 9/10 cm proud of the lining...

From memory the "Wrecker " was "ALL IMPORT WRECKERS, BURLEIGH HEADS
"

I’m sure the space saver spare would have been fine but as the car was fitted with over $35,000 of Tickford mods I wanted to check with them and was told if I used the aftermarket spare that would void my warranty with them

Thanks Matt, and what did you opt for as your spare.

Back in the days of the early adopters "Gnome" spent a lot of time and effort to come up with a spare option for the V8's with the staggered wheels.

The overall diameter of a front wheel 255/40/19 is 687mm and for a rear wheel 275/40/19 it's 703mm. This 16mm means if you put a front wheel on the rear there will be a difference in the rotational speed of each rear wheel which, depending on how far the car is driven, could damage the LSD in these cars. The "Gnome" spare as it's called was the closest he could come to matching the rear wheel overall diameter.

There's a reason Ford supplied the goop and air compressor.

I think with either solution one would probably fall foul of warranty provisions but the Gnome spare was the solution I was most comfortable with.

Hi guys,

Just wondering if this setup is still valid for 2018 Mustang?
The 18 is identical to the earlier models so any solution you find in this thread is still viable for the 18. There is a difference in the 18 boot though in that there is now a subwoofer fitted so you would not want to raise the floor level with a much fatter wheel.

A question for those who went with the "Gnome Spare" - have any of you had to actually use it yet? If so how was the experience? Mine is still in the boot, and I sincerely hope that I never have to use it.
