Enough of these girl guns......just picked this up from the gunsmith Saturday. 1942 Springfield Garand rebarreled in .308 with a Criterion barrel, everything reparked, new NM style stock hand fitted and sanded with 600 grit.
Nice, looks like all of the hardware is reparked as well?

I was denied from the NICS background check yesterday at the FFL (there's a first). They don't provide the FFL with the reason but I have a phone number for FDLE and a control number to use for ID. I am hoping the FFL just misread/typed my information into the computer (and I should have checked it myself while I was there, but I was too pissed), but who knows. Had a clean NICS check in September and don't recall committing any felonies since then. My credit report is clean but I am still concerned with possible identify theft (someone claiming to be me was trying to get money from my grandfather last year).

I feel like I got Obama'd real hard.

Edit: NVM. Dealer fucked up my social.

Nice.

Brings back memories . . . having to clean one of those per term while I was in ROTC . . . and being warned about something called an "M1 thumb"

Why did you swap from the .30-06?

Barrel price is the same for .308 or 06. I have 3 other .308s and no 30-06. Streamlining mostly. I load 42gr of 4064 powder behind a 175 SMK for 3 rifles and all shoot sub moa with that load. Hoping the Garand does the same.

Ah, makes sense...I think for nostalgia purposes I'd keep it 06. BTW, is the thumb injury from the ejecting clip?

Thats when the bolt closes when you push a clip in. I went home a drilled a hole in the nail with a tiny drill bit and it went POW and relieved all the pressure.....it felt great.

LOL sounds like a wonderful design for government use. We can't have anything nice that doesn't punish us!

Proper form would be to use the base of your hand to keep backwards pressure on the op-rod handle while pushing the clip in with your thumb so that when the bolt release is engaged your hand is there to stop the bolt and prevent maiming.

Thats correct....mine was from an accidental bolt closure while unloaded.

when you feel the click inserting the garand clip youll learn youre suppose to pull your hand out quick. If you keep pushing down it will drop the action on your finger. Then you push the op rod forward.

I know, I had the rifle unloaded and grabbed the rifle and accidentally pushed the follower down allowing the bolt to close.

That's a good kind of pain right there.

Here are my two babies. Both SA, both WWII production

The '45 is the shooter and the '43 is the one with history. I've since added type 2 lock-bar sights to the '43, part of the everlasting process to 'correct' it. I would like more, but they aren't getting any cheaper.
