Text messages from strangers

Is it just me, or is it rude when people who do not know you (mainly businesses) per se', send you a text message?
Even more so if you have not conversed with them directly.

More than likely, most people now have an unlimited text messaging plan. Alas, I feel it is rude to just send a text message; unless discussed prior.

Much rather get a text than a phone call. Prefer neither, but at least a text doesn't keep ringing like a phone call.

This week in particular, I have resulted to not answering phone calls, if it not in my Contacts.
Back on 1st April 2020, I was made redundant. And, with that, I felt I had to answer all phone calls, in case it was a job opportunity. Alas, if it is, they will leave a voicemail, or even then email me. If they do neither, well, it merely was not meant to be.

A vendor was to give me a quote today. They sent me a text to give me some details, and ask a few questions. I was not impressed with that. Almost as if it is 'allowed'. Sorry, but, I do not know you like that...

For whatever reason texts do feel more personal. When I bought my GT I had two or three conversations going on with sales staff and it felt very unprofessional. It also lead to me being told two different things regarding financing and cost of the vehicle.

So yeah - it bothers me.

Random text messages from businesses that I'm not involved with are aggravating. But, if it's a business that I've been communicating with, I almost prefer a text. When car shopping, I don't have to listen to their sales pitch amd constant yammering. Yes or no questions, give me a little detail, send some pics.
